mercurialworld Posted August 26 Posted August 26 ATRL has been a hub for pop music discussions for over a decade now. From heated debates about chart positions, to Katy Perry drags, this forum has seen it all. But as the internet and music landscape have drastically evolved over the years, one question remains: is ATRL still indicative of the general public's opinions about pop music? On one hand, ATRL's active user base, diverse perspectives, and discussions still provide valuable insights into the world of pop music. On the other hand, some argue that ATRL has become an echo chamber, with certain artists and fan bases dominating the conversations. Is ATRL truly reflective of the larger public's opinions, or is Ava Max just not as big of a deal outside the forum? Discuss below.
Wicked Posted August 26 Posted August 26 No. Not at all actually lol. The site is in desperate need of a cultural update. 14
Strawberry Bubble Posted August 26 Posted August 26 I mean, everyone is obsessed with Taylor, whether they're admiring her or throwing shade, which says a lot about the culture right now, lol.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Atrl is the epitome of Stan's that need to touch Grass 1 1
Gladiator Posted August 26 Posted August 26 (edited) The average GP does not live online arguing about or even thinking about mpg the way we do (I doubt they even know what mpg even means other than 'miles per gallon'). They also tend to listen to music that far extends that circle of female artists and pop bangers that I find the majority of users seem to focus on here. Ironically, the average ATRL members have super high compatibility lastfm profiles but will pretend they hate an artist they've streamed at least 4,000 times. The same cannot be said for the average GP. Edited August 26 by Gladiator 6
TaylorsSquad Posted August 26 Posted August 26 No ATRL isn't indicative of the GP. This is a niche Pop Culture site. 2
tost1 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 I mean we are mostly gays that adore pop music, the gp is not even close to that 1
Princess Aurora Posted August 26 Posted August 26 No. The GP doesn't care about discussing music. We're music fans
BrokenMachine Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Never has been. Like, who talks about Xtina, Katy and Kesha in 2024 ? 1

EtherealCat Posted August 26 Posted August 26 yes just yesterday i saw from my window two people fighting over britney and christina 4

Filpo Posted August 26 Posted August 26 I don't know if you're ready for this conversation, but ATRL and Twitter ARE the GP, just more obsessive. The vast majority of us listen to pop music, the most consumed music in the world. We differ from the GP only because we actively look for it, people in the music industry don't have to lift a finger to shove it down our throat, some of you even promote it for free in a way. 1

John Slayne Posted August 26 Posted August 26 no and it obviously never was. most people don't dedicate this much time to pop music and pop culture
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted August 27 Posted August 27 No. The GP does still not talk about Britney vs. Xtina like it's 2003.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted August 27 Posted August 27 No, for better and for worse. This site would be so boring if it wasn't a rainbow asylum.
teresaguidice Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) without a handful of posters switching things up, a lot of atrl would be completely comfortable exclusively discussing the oeuvre of britney spears, paris hilton, heidi montag, hillary duff, fergie, and the pussycat dolls. i would imagine that is not indicative of the gp. Jglj Posted August 27 Posted August 27 No, it's clearly not the GP. ATRL are people who like pop music and pop culture in a level that the GP either doesn't care or vibe with. Also considering the GP in different places have different tastes in different eras, whilst here people tend to flock to the same stuff. But that is not necessarily bad, that's why the site exists, for people with similar interests to discuss those, other genres also have them.
motherfossora Posted August 27 Posted August 27 i don't think your average person in 2024 is discussing whether the edge of glory should've been the 2nd single off born this way 1
