Lana completely innovated pop. She was a complete breath of fresh air in the way only Amy Winehouse had been in the new millennium. Born to Die used to be considered alternative music back when it came out, and now, due to the fact that so many artists have tried to copy it, it sounds like the most generic kind of pop.

love both endlessly, but what björk has put out is light years ahead of anything lana has done in terms of being truly alt tbh. björks album run from post to biophilia is literally insane in terms of innovation and creativity. it's not necessarily the best music you've heard but she had distinct ideas of how the records were going to be produced and really gave her all to fulfill any type of whim or idea that struck her.

 

i would definitely listen to björks podcast where she dissects her discography, because it truly shows how involved and complex she is as a writer/composer

Björk is still too obscure for a lot of listeners and her sound is so individual to her and she hasn't had the same impact on alt-pop that Lana has had and that's not shade, it's just true.
