blown away Posted August 25 Posted August 25 It's not good, it's very forgettable and melodically poor.
skwonderfactory Posted August 25 Posted August 25 It's actually a decent song. Yes, the lyrics certainly have cringe moments but Katy has had worse lines. The production is exciting and the melody is punchy. I do wish it was longer though.
Scandalous Posted August 25 Posted August 25 the chorus is kinda catchy in a generic way but that's the only positive thing about this cringe mess i can't believe the listening session Kats hyped up this album so much when so far it's worse than Smile
dumbsparce Posted August 25 Posted August 25 It's as basic as it gets. Predictable production, lyrics, melody. Not everything needs to be innovative but when the artist is already as vanilla as it gets, the song needs a little bit of spice to be worth a listen. Also the topic itself is tired af.
Bethenny Frankel Posted August 25 Posted August 25 yes if this got played in the gay club the dancefloor would immediately clear
Into The Void Posted August 26 Posted August 26 I think it's a cute bop tbh. Nothing special but when it comes on I'll let it play. I like the melody. But I don't really care that much about lyrics. I prefer a beat over lyricism
goverm3nth0ker Posted August 26 Posted August 26 as OT said, producers and controversy aside, i could tolerate a bit more Lifeless but this is BAD
Rihanna9 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 My friends always make fun of my music taste cause the past decade all I listen too is MINDLESS dance pop bops. This is by far the perfect formuler (mr. krabs voice) to a perfect dance pop song. It's so mindlessly perfect & fun and I can't help but move to it, I wake up most mornings with the "YOU BETTER CEEEEEEEELEBRATE" line stuck in my head. And lets be honest Dr. Luke & Katy have a proven track record for creating pop perfection so it is expected. I'm not much of a lyric person I'm always about the beat and this has been getting me through a really rough time in my life. My fav Katy song I think. But please don't get it twisted, I think Dr. Luke is completely disgusting, I wish Kesha would've won her case against him & I think the "lack of evidence" excuse for why she didn't and they both settled is ridiculous because there is a huge long history of artists talking about how mean and predatory he is. I wish she hadn't worked with him and yes she made a conscious decision to work with him again because she is not contractually obligated to work with him in any way. It made me really sad when I found out she did but unfortunately she did and this will be solidified forever in time as her 6th album cycle regardless of who likes it or not. I decided to checked out the art she made this era and this is exactly my kind of music. This will be my 2nd era being as a Katy stan (Witness & 143 I forget Smile exists other then NRO). I see why people wouldn't like this kind of song but the hate train on Katy the past 7 years has been so forced even before she decided to go back to working with Luke, the dislike of this song has nothing to do with who she decided to work with or the quality of the music. Bottom line this is pop perfection to my taste in music and I will always own my dance bops.
The7thStranger Posted August 27 Posted August 27 It's pretty dire. Thoughtless, pointless, dated. The hook is preachy and really out of touch with where we are as a society. (Though, if we look at the politics of this song, it's actually a great indication of where we are in society...) Katy's performance is fine. But yes, the song is absolutely awful.
Acuminatus Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I don't hate the melody, but the lyrics are cringy. Katy can have very cringe lyrics but this feels like a different level
UnusualBoy Posted August 28 Posted August 28 It's catchy and that's it. It's a song that could have been produced by anyone else and sung by anybody.
modeblock Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Yes, terrible. Not even worth hate-streaming on Dbreezus - utter and complete GARBAJ from head to toe. It's rotten from inside out and the GP SMELLED it a mile away. We have her a chance like you would a suspect avocado, but it was UGLY inside. boo Katheryn - 1/10 1
Blade Posted August 28 Posted August 28 To answer the question, yes it's bad. But I keep seeing people compare it to a 2010s song and I just don't hear it. It sounds like what it is. A 2020s pop bomb. It wished it sounded like it could fit in 2010.
slw84 Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Yes it's that bad for 2024. It would have been bad for 2014 but we would have pretended like it wasn't and it would have been a Birthday sized hit.
DanceAgain Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Its mawkish, cheesy & the lyrics are mediocre Everything about it is just shite, its more of a album filler track or a bonus track. Her new song Lifetimes is also crap, its bland & generic, her lead Singles used to be Signature songs, but now its like shes trying to create the same formula but it's just bland and forgettable She looks hot though
