Actually, I just had a flashback and I bought the loveppears 20th anniversary and there was a whole ass disc missing from it, and it wasn't even preowned. Good thing I bought it for memorabilia purposes cuz.. Mine is still sealed. Now I'm scared
Graves Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Don't get me wrong, because I LOOOOOVE miss 'ppears now, but at first she was so... insurmountable to me. Huge swathes of the album blended together in my mind. It took a few listens to form real thoughts. That Trauma guitar riff was always my rock tho. No matter how much the album scared me it was like... oh, the good sis Trauma is here to bop with. 2
AvadaKedavra Posted October 19 Posted October 19 That techno or trance and rocky instrumental goes so hard Such a fun song. A bit childish. This is the Japanese Hot To Go I want Para Para to be a thing in the west This is how im dancing to the song 1
Invisibility Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Trauma herb most overrated single? Maybe so! It doesn't even have a great chorus dd

Kudos for saying that, mama, for spilling, because I was the exact same way nnn. appears was the worst for me as far as getting lost in the mix... could NOT remember that melody compared to the others to save my life. 1
Graves Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Bad day to be a Duty stan... 14th Single Track #3 on Duty HIGH SCORE: 10 x 5 (Graves, Kyle-x, blueberries, Maresia, AMIT) LOW SCORE: 7 x 2 (Bad Decisions, sanzo) HOST SCORE: 10 Can I just say how wild it is to me that the lead single to her third studio album was her fourteenth single? The pacing, mama... Madonna truly found dead. Wow, what a bop! This was another one of my early Ayu discoveries and it did not disappoint. Another big pivot from Ayu, just as WHATEVER took the second album in a whole new direction, vogue gives the third era an identity totally removed from either of the previous albums. The sort of vaguely-Arabian sound is so far away from any song she'd put out before this and gives vogue a sonic identity that few other pop songs can even relate to. Wikipedia tells me this is a latin-pop song, but I don't know that I hear it. Like, it's very obviously middle-eastern inspired to me, no? I mean, I always assumed that was the intended vibe, given the choice to do a desert setting for the video, but maybe not. As mentioned, vogue was the lead single for Duty in April of 2000 and peaked at #3 on the singles chart. A bit of a step back from the peaks of the previous era, but it still sold a respectable 800,000 copies! And we already know that Duty went on to become her best selling album, so it was more of a blip on the radar than anything else. The video is... ambitious, I'll say that. vogue got a sort of sequential release, the first part of the Duty singles suite. The full video covers a sort of abstract plotline over three songs. It's some post-apocalyptic scene with kids wandering around the sand. I mean, it's at least conceptually neat if nothing else. Suilen: ended Madonna, and I mean it. Shiina's vogue might be a bit more avant-garde, though. Kyle-x: The production on this one goes absolutely insane. I mean, who is doing it like her? Her ability to reinvent is insane with this being the lead single after what she served on LOVEppears omg? The acoustic version on ayu-mi-x III is gorgeous. As a fan of her weird and unusual remixes, she served me up a feast with the "400BPM Fatback Mix", "Kirari Natsu Ayu Mix" and "pandart sasanooha Mix." The "HAL'S MIX 2000" remix is probably the best one though. Invisibility: A STUNNING vibe. She really juiced an incredible melody out of the sitar and drums, I just love it all. AMIT: talented, brilliant, show-stopping, eat it vomit it etc. 2/13 2 1
Kyle-x Posted October 19 Posted October 19 The crowd was living for her performing this with the Britney hair and gay pride outfit https://www.facebook.com/BlueBirdFansub2/videos/trauma-countdown-live-20022003-a/1345993328882423/

Graves Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 10th Single「A」 Track #13 on LOVEppears 11 x 1: @confide in me HIGH SCORE: 10 x 5 (Graves, Kyle-x, blueberries, AMIT, sanzo) LOW SCORE: 6.6 x 1 (Curaga) HOST SCORE: 10 An industrial drum machine and some robotic codec chanting over the top... can you think of a better way to open a song? monochrome, the opening track of the A EP, is just another example of Ayu's genre blending prowess. The way the soft piano keys can coexist with the UFO whirring synths throughout is crazy to me - this entire album is just pop music at its most brilliant. I do think the little extra quirks of the single version give it a leg up over the album mix, especially that little bonus dialogue at the end, but you can't go wrong with either version really. I initially found this one of the less interesting tracks of the album, but in true slow-burn fashion it crept up on me and became one of my absolute favorites. As another one of the A tracks, monochrome has no music video but was the recipient of an elusive Momo no Tennensui commercial! Sell that water, mama. Unfortunately the track has not been on as many live outings as some of the other LOVEppears tracks, it's a bit of a rarity to see it wheeled out. Luckily we stans know the tea. A true gem of a song. Is it time to dig in to some Ayu lore? What purpose does the sudden ending have? I've seen the theories, that the male voice at the end is passive-aggressively telling her "you were great" before leaving the studio... as if some early statement on her treatment by avex. Wouldn't that be a crazy easter egg? That her well documented struggles with the label were being included as early as before her second album? Some fans even think that the song cutting off in the middle of that specific line, "because I'm very strong," is representative of the record label attempts to quash her independence. The layers. What do y'all think? Was Ayu sending us a message on monochrome? Suilen: I don't like how abrubtly it ends. Kyle-x: She was in her artist bag here, the way the song abruptly ends whew she was making a statement. The additional dialogue at the end of the single version is good lore. The "D-Z WHITE INSTINCT Mix" is so good. Invisibility: The production is such a slapper, the mic drop-esque cutoff, the gorgeous bridge, it's probably my favorite of the four A tracks. AMIT: ten ten tens across the board. 4/17 2 1

Graves Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 The A EP did not lose a single track until #30, but now has lost all four of her songs by #15... sad.
