Track #2 on RAINBOW

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 3 (Kyle-x, blueberries, AMIT)

LOW SCORE: 6 x 2 (Fevesy, AvadaKedavra)

HOST SCORE: 9

As the first song on the RAINBOW album, WE WISH is the first taste of this era of Ayumi. Is it a statement piece on the album's themes? Is it a thought-provoking interesting intro track like Duty or I am...? Nah, it's just a good ol' fashioned BANGER. Nothing to it except sheer bop-ability. I do think it's a slight scream that all of that "ethereal" world-building that the dream intro track tries to do is just kind of crudely interrupted the opening guitar riffs of WE WISH. Yes, mother. Telling us not to think too hard, we still gotta dance.

Wow. Can you say an early '00s bop? That opening guitar section sound like something out of an early Britney song, Y2K pop at its finest. The rest of the song is pure Ayu, of course, early Brit would never have the guitar solo at the end, but it is a fun little comparison. I don't think it's totally ungrounded either. Knowing that this is the album she started sprinkling English into and that the following track, Real me, is an absolute US R&B inspired bop... yeah, maybe we can say that swathes of RAINBOW have a little western influence to them! Global queen.

Suilen: I don't listen to this song much but I have to admit that it's got that classic Ayumi sound to it.

Kyle-x: An 11 contender for sure omg. This song is so catchy. The production on this song is crazy and the "Ramon Zenker remix" is a SMASH.

Invisibility: Is it an evolution/SURREAL rehash? Yeah. Does it severely slap? Also yeah!

AMIT: oh this dance-rock BANGER? loud and over-the-top which is fitting for an opener yet doesn't feel grating at all.

A total bop.

The way we've just entered the Top 50 and the ratings are already at about an 8. See when you have a quality discography! :jonny5:

Track #10 on vogue

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 7 (!!) (Kyle-x, SA*KURA, UrMom, blueberries, AMIT, sanzo, confide in me)

LOW SCORE: 3.7 x 1 (Curaga)

HOST SCORE: 9

The little b-side who could. :'( Ain't it refreshing to see a rather obscure, non-album track climb this high? Top half of the rate, just outside the top forty. Having beaten almost all of the regular tracks on Duty in the process? An underrated queen.

This is a really touching moment. A track made as a memorial for somebody recently deceased, with Ayumi recounting how it felt to look up from the black procession and see the empty sky above her. It brings back the memories of the skies she once watched together with that person. That's such a simple but striking image, right? The song is a sad one, but a smooth one too. I think she sounds really good here, even with the high pitch of her youthful days.

It baffles my mind that this was not considered good enough to get a place on the Duty track list. From what we know, the majority of the album was recorded in a rush during Summer of 2000. And if they were so caught for time, why neglect the fully formed album track you have right here on the vogue CD? Maybe it was the subject matter? We know that Ayu is a softie and perhaps this song had too deep of a meaning to her to want it on the album at that time. At least she's done right by it since - reviving it for live performances on several of her later tours.

Suilen: I believe I only discovered it earlier this year, and it was a pleasant surprise.

Kyle-x: A gorgeous, sad song. The "HAL'S MIX 2000" is stunning as well.

Invisibility: It's a bit too subdued but still, would've been better than 50% of Duty if it was in the album.

Curaga: Her voice is really smooth and pretty here till we get to the chorus, which isn't my fav. Best part is 1:40–1:51.

Meloetta Carey: it's kinda [track 10 on Loveppears].

AMIT: one of her most harrowing songs, it gives me chills every time.
