Curaga Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Oh, we like I am... the song? I guess I need more time with it......
Suilen Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Also, my score for A song for xx may seem low but I still think it's probably the second-best debut album by a major j-pop diva/nbiva after Shiina's and tied with Akina's. If we take non-major ones, then only JASMINE's GOLD and Seiko Oomori's Mahou would be above that for me. 1

The groundbreaking and avant-garde opening to a rock opera? Yes we do, mama. Bjork found unemployed after she heard I am... She knew she had to pivot into the weird ****, as she simply could not match up. 4

Invisibility Posted September 13 Posted September 13 A Song is born (We Are the World version) being one of her sole woman collabs is so funny I'm sorry
confide in me Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Took me a bit to get I am... (the track) but one day it just HIT me Currently trying to balance a bunch of things in my life but believe me when i say i'm working on this rate 2
Curaga Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I've been listening to the songs so much that, even as a non–Japanese speaker, I've picked up on how often she says "shiawase ni" Btw, I know Ayumi is praised for her lyric style in general, but does anyone here have thoughts on which songs have the best lyrics, or songs you liked better after reading the lyrics? I need to look at them again, but I liked the lyrics of kanariya and the imagery of canaries when I read the translation. 1
Graves Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 My Story in general has some of her best lyrical content, even if it isn't my faaaavorite of the albums in this part. Also, off the top of my head, I like teddy bear and Memorial address. I think them having personal inspiration for her is the selling point on those two. 1
Kyle-x Posted September 13 Posted September 13 (edited) I loveee a lot of the lyrics on RAINBOW personally, as for the albums in this rate Edited September 13 by Kyle-x 2

Suilen Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I rated teddy bear mostly based on the lyrics even though I don't particularly care for it, the same goes for Who... plus it being similar to Kumi's Walk in its significance. Duty has the best balance of lyrics and production/arrangement. MY STORY might be lyrically-charged, but they aren't always given the best musical ornament. Generally, though, I tried not to focus too much on the lyrics for this part as in the post-M Subeki world, overanalyzing them based on the additional context we got may ruin one's perception of some songs. Still, there are a bunch of tracks where it's painfully obvious that they are about Matsuura, but I tried not to let it affect my enjoyment/score too much. 1
UrMom Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Love me some Ayu-mama! This sounds fun, I'll do this now. I'm so glad I lived through her imperial phase. WHEW, a moment. She blessed us with killer singles every few months and an incredible album every year (and her contemporaries were doing the same). We didn't know how good we had it. 1
Graves Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 No detailed tea, but some of the classics are taking a beating thus far
KillingYourCareer Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I've been wanting to get her into discography forever after having listened to a couple of albums. May this be the occasion!
