Yes she snapped, and the butterfly is an iconic look.

I thought JEWEL was a single, that one grew on me too.

It should have been a single to be fair, it's got great streams and sold over a million combined downloads. Probably the second biggest hit of the era after BLUE BIRD. The PV iconic too whew. It would have been a serve as a double a-side with 1 LOVE or It was

I am currently still in a debut moment myself but I want to dive into RAINBOW again before the deadline tbh, maybe even MY STORY but I think that's too many songs :rip:

Mm, MY STORY is a bit long in the tooth, isn't it?

Like sis, give us the abstract of this story, not the directors cut unedited manuscript edition :rip:

When it comes to some I am... songs, I think I prefer their remixes, but I'm not sure if rating them instead would be fair. A different arrangement/version though, that's easier.

When it comes to ayu I feel like it's okay because the remixes are such a core part of her discography unlike most other artists

I've definitely gotten that impression so far. The number of remix albums she put out for her early eras is insane :deadbanana4:

As much as I love the original mixes on ASF××, I'll be rating some of the acoustic orchestra mixes because they are just tew good :jonnycat:

Alright, I'll consider it. I don't mind serving Maresia for a handful of tracks, but I don't want it to be a recurrent thing, especially when everyone's so positive.

Sometimes being a villain is fun... :-*

I've been serving positivity in this thread, but I am working on tiered ratings again like I did for Miss Shiina, so I might be the Maresia this time!

Limiting the number of 9s and 10s you can assign really makes you think about which songs you want to champion and which you can let go even if you thought they were in the same tier. It's almost like a personality test to me nn

I think I'd rather be a reverse Maresia in part 3 by giving 10s to the songs everyone hates

I love the instrumental of this song. So nostalgic :gaycat2: i wonder how is this edm genre called. Is this ambient? house?
A lot of japanese music has that old vintage edm feeling.

Ayu made that early career pivot for the gay vote and I suppose it worked. The gays are the only ones still streaming her in 2024.

Personally, I wouldn't call either of these EDM. I would say these both could fit in the downtempo genre, but Two of us is R&B before anything else; it just happens to have electronic elements too.

Just my opinion though... someone correct me if I'm wrong lol

No, it's pretty clearly a chilled out R&B affair. It's like the album mix of kanariya only better.

Thank u sistrens. I know A Song For XX can be a bit too much cause her voice is a bit whiny but i really like the production.

There's something so unique and nostalgic to it.
I feel like with Loveappears-Duty u can feel the upgrade in production-all the new production gear and influences from the new decade arriving and European dance music-trance

I love the production of From Your Letter too cause its like that downtempo or classic r&b sound with japanese instrumentation
Love the flute thing

and Hana is serving TV Show-News music

I would guess some combination of the Japanese public turning their back on the diva archetype, the decline of avex in general, along with the public's dislike of Ayu as a celebrity persona for a while back then. Mostly the former though. Even Namie's classics had pretty bad recurrents from when she was on Spotify, and she was pretty well-liked at the time of her retirement.

I think only Utada managed to stave off the rot of irrelevance thanks to clever/lucky brand interweaving (Kingdom Hearts / Evangelion), and the Fantome album turning her from a J-pop diva into a more serious, Sheena Ringo-esque lane. But that was probably easier for her, since she was the least "diva" of the big four anyhow.

Maybe Ayu and Kuu will see some reappraisal with time? I think the 25th anniversary stuff for Ayu did soften her public image up a bit and remind people of why she was such a force back then.

I fear Fairyland was a bit too on the nose for us. That must be the only reason it does not have 100 million plays, of course.
