Disconnect Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) I've always felt like this ere doesn't get its flowers as it should. It is definitely as important as The E.N.D., The Fame/TFM, Teenage Dream, Pink Friday and One Love when it comes to defining the electronic pop craze of the early 2010s. I was listening to Animal by Ke$ha the other day, and even though there are some trashy songs (especially the ballads), haha, if you erase those and replace them with the best of Cannibal, you get a true masterpiece, to be honest. Truly Pop Perfection from the early 2010s. My tracklist goes something like this: 1) YLIMD 2) We R Who We R 3) TiK ToK 4) Cannibal 5) Take it Off 6) Kiss N Tell 7) Stephen 8) Grow a Pear 9) Blah Blah Blah 10) PAARDH 11) Blow 12) Backstabber 13) The Harold Song 14) Dinosaur 15) VIP 16) Crazy Beautiful Life 17) CU Next Tuesday 18) Animal What do you think? Vixen Eyes Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Not that ugly tracklist 💀 But yes it's so iconic that TiK ToK blocked Bad Romance to #3 Edited August 22 by Vixen Eyes 6
visions Posted August 22 Posted August 22 You took out Blind, Hungover, and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes… Do you even have a tastebud in that sickly little mouth of yours? 3 4
$ebert Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Definitely, I remember girls trying to imitate her look and she was everywhere 4

Haha they are so cliché and cringy to me tbh. The Harold Song & Animal >>>> I also don't think they really fit into the whole party vibe of the album tbh. I still remember they were the ones I didn't like the first time I listened to the album back in 2010. I still don't like them 4

I used to love Blow but the music video was a choice.
Princess Aurora Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Yes, Kesha is the blueprint for Brat and all the y2k/hyperpop revival 4 5

Most of her music videos this era were choices It's clear her label didn't want to invest much in her videos, which sucks because that really affected her in the long term, especially at a time when videos were extremely important. And yeah the era was iconic, she was inescapable. The Harold Song should have been released as the final single off of Cannibal. 3
UnusualBoy Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Not sure if iconic is the word I'd use but it was bop after bop.

minajatropolis Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Animal is one of those albums that has no skips in my opinion. It aged sooooo well. 2 1
Uncatena Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Lowkey yes. People seem to forget that Kesha was the ******* MOMENT for a good while in the early 2010s. This era gave us a lot of iconic hits that, despite their trappings, have aged really well. And the album has other very good songs apart from the singles as well. Also, there were iconic performances and videos from that era. Kesha kind of spearheaded the mainstream era of what we now call "indie sleaze". She was the poster child of that moment. 5 1
Orsay Posted August 22 Posted August 22 why did Gaga have to be mentioned in here? I'm a LM but I swear Gaga gets some success and some monsters immediately act insufferable, like let's please not anyway, yes, that was a mega classic 3 1

You're right and there's a similar thread asking this (see below). However, as I have said in this comment, this is slowly changing and Kesha is gradually receiving the credit she deserves for being a pop pioneer in many ways The success of Joyride, which is reminiscent of early Kesha while giving it a modern touch, also proves how ahead of their time Animal/Cannibal have always been.
