Why is the Animal + Cannibal era so iconic but underrated?

I've always felt like this ere doesn't get its flowers as it should.

It is definitely as important as The E.N.D., The Fame/TFM, Teenage Dream, Pink Friday and One Love when it comes to defining the electronic pop craze of the early 2010s.

I was listening to Animal by Ke$ha the other day, and even though there are some trashy songs (especially the ballads), haha, if you erase those and replace them with the best of Cannibal, you get a true masterpiece, to be honest.

Truly Pop Perfection from the early 2010s.

8) Grow a Pear

9) Blah Blah Blah

10) PAARDH

11) Blow

12) Backstabber

13) The Harold Song

14) Dinosaur

15) VIP

Not that ugly tracklist 💀

But yes it's so iconic that TiK ToK blocked Bad Romance to #3 :cm:

You took out Blind, Hungover, and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes…

Do you even have a tastebud in that sickly little mouth of yours?

Haha they are so cliché and cringy to me tbh. The Harold Song & Animal >>>>

I also don't think they really fit into the whole party vibe of the album tbh. I still remember they were the ones I didn't like the first time I listened to the album back in 2010.

I still don't like them :sorry:

I loved the Animal era, but tbh I don't remember much about the Cannibal era other than WRWWR being played like crazy in the winter of 2010. I used to love Blow but the music video was a choice. :emofish:

Blah Blah Blah was such a moment tbh :jonny5:

Most of her music videos this era were choices :emofish: It's clear her label didn't want to invest much in her videos, which sucks because that really affected her in the long term, especially at a time when videos were extremely important.

And yeah the era was iconic, she was inescapable. The Harold Song should have been released as the final single off of Cannibal.

Not sure if iconic is the word I'd use but it was bop after bop.

BR reached a #2 peak though. But look which one is the classic and which one is overshadowed by an app now.

Truly Pop Perfection from the early 2010s.

Everything is perfect if you remove the flaws, hun. That's what literally separates perfection from imperfection.

I'm not the one clinging on a 2010 album of my fave, mine actually keeps breaking records in 2024 so I'm not bitter, I'm better.

Lowkey yes. People seem to forget that Kesha was the ******* MOMENT for a good while in the early 2010s. This era gave us a lot of iconic hits that, despite their trappings, have aged really well. And the album has other very good songs apart from the singles as well.

Also, there were iconic performances and videos from that era. Kesha kind of spearheaded the mainstream era of what we now call "indie sleaze". She was the poster child of that moment.

You're right and there's a similar thread asking this (see below).

However, as I have said in this comment, this is slowly changing and Kesha is gradually receiving the credit she deserves for being a pop pioneer in many ways :cm:

The success of Joyride, which is reminiscent of early Kesha while giving it a modern touch, also proves how ahead of their time Animal/Cannibal have always been.

Truly iconic. One of the biggest debut singles of all time, a number one album, two number 1s on the Hot 100 + 4 top 10s :wanda:That's what you call coming out swinging :jamming:
