Have you heard about the recent outrage over Rape Culture in India?

A brief summary: an indian doctor was raped and then killed while on the job a on August 9. She was a hard-working doctor finishing a 36 hour shift when it happened. Then the police didn't really do much about it, which created social outrage, political debate, strikes and protests.

This led to some conversations within the nation, focusing on the need to change the sense of superiority men feel over women in Indian society, double standards in how men are women are treated, and the objectification of women as sexual objects. However, it seems that a lot of members of the country are resistant to challenging these views and it developed into a big, still ongoing debate.

To make matters worse, last week 2 underage girls were raped when they went to use the toilet in their nursery school by a male staff member, and then the school tried to suppress the situation from seeing the light of day.

Do you think there is any hope to remedy this situation?

Yes, and it's horrifying to see women getting r@ped every day in India. It's so scary and terrifying. The people need to stand up and protest against r@pe. This situation is truly awful.

I recommend watching To Kill A Tiger (it's available on Netflix). Gives a glimpse of one story of this. So much gets swept under the rug - though of course this happens all over.

There is a remedy, and it goes with massive protests and loud demands to harshly penalize rape.

But it will take time. It's also up to society to change, so education is a big weapon against this horrible culture trait.

I saw a video recently of a group of men in India, swarming the few women out on the streets and you can see them pulling and groping the women. No respect whatsoever

There is clearly something fundamentally wrong with Indian society and/or the justice system regarding this topic. While all rapists are obviously responsible for their own actions and should be punished harshly, I think the gender imbalance plays a huge role. India's ratio of men to women is one of the highest in the world. Men who don't "receive" the sex that they think they are entitled to as their God-given right are truly scary. Sadly that specific problem is almost impossible to fix through politics/government intervention.

This same thing happens in Saudi Arabia as well. Basically if you are a woman alone on the street you will be touched whether you want it or not.

According to the 2020-2021 National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), India's sex ratio in 2022 was 1,020 females per 1,000 males

not the other way round (if that's what you were suggesting)

A different topic but I just googled it, how come the top 6 countries (excluding Vatican) woth the highest percentage of males are all on the Arabian peninsula?

This is horrible, but I feel like as the news spreads it's going to lead to more racism & hate crimes :/

What? Obviously the relevant metric is the total number of adult males to females, as newborns rarely rape each other. India is famously known for having one of the worst male to female sex imbalances in the world, skewing male.

Those are countries like Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia which have millions of "guest workers" without citizenship in traditionally male industries like construction. If you only looked at citizens of those countries, the statistics look very different.

Every now and then I hear stories like this come out of India and I am absolutely shocked at the depravity, immorality and the seeming state sponsored misogyny of Indian men.
