Illuminati Posted August 21 Posted August 21 LGBT characters don't always have to be a victim. His androgynous look make him a very memorable character, they would probably call it woke nowadays 1
Bubble Tea Posted August 21 Posted August 21 He is about as legendary as i could possibly imagine. fem queen
Rotunda Posted August 21 Posted August 21 A lot of villains in children's media are deliberately written to be effeminate (Him, Hades in Hercules, Scar, Jafar). I don't think it's as much about gay = bad as much as it is about emphasizing that they fall outside of the norm for society. A lot of worlds where superheroes are required to "hide" their powers also lend themselves to having queer coded characters or obvious queer metaphors. 4
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted August 21 Posted August 21 He was soooo iconic people are just too sensitive
MattieB Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Yes, HIM and the red guy from cow and chicken were supposed to represent queer characters, it was a signal to kids that we're evil. Propaganda at it's finest 1
zoldyck Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I liked them so much, always wish they had somewhat more of them like Mojo Jojo
Vixen Eyes Posted August 21 Posted August 21 6 hours ago, cartierdelrey said: I find it inherently problematic to make a villain, LGBT coded. The antagonist was deliberately designed to be menacing and using androgynous, flamboyant, and effeminate qualities was… questionable. I find it rare that LGBT representation involves a hero, which says a lot about the underlying biases and assumptions of the screenwriters. Just because a villain is LGBT doesn't make it the reason theyre the villain. Just like being hetero isn't the reason for them being a hero. 1
Johnny Jacobs Posted August 21 Posted August 21 He's a perv and didn't belong in a children cartoon. He's iconic tho. Belonged in an adult animated show. Like Hazbin Hotel
drivers license Posted August 21 Posted August 21 HIM is an icon powerpuff is not to blame for whatever this is tho if you look through history, check out the main character vs. villains from disney and most cartoons from the past. there's always this certain aesthetic about them- that i don't need to mention compared to the heroines.
liquiddiamonds Posted August 21 Posted August 21 (edited) HIM made me a Non binary (jk). they're iconic. even if it was supposed to be propaganda, it backfired Edited August 21 by liquiddiamonds
JustHoran Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Nope. HIM was literally iconic and such a great character.
