2014 - 2024, Ten years later, did you expect this Gaga/Katy career trajectory?

I knew Gaga had it in her and hoped she'd build herself back up, and it's great to see the trajectory she's had.  Ever since she hit that low, she's been playing the long game and it's worked.

acting was gaga passionate long time ago, being theatre kid at heart definitely seems natural progression towards her career and creativities. something she enjoy more than pop star life even if her TV/movie gigs didnt take off in alternate universe. liddo remain support her as predicted on BTW era and still

katy burned every bridges over her friends/networking but ultimately that 4 years gap killed her momentum along with hilary campaign. she could be writing camp girl next to rihanna and be single artist get dance hits here there but witness rollout speed her down the hill faster. in her platform and perspective, she should have still charted but that's it.

I always knew Gaga would come out on top. She's way too talented to ever be counted out.

The key difference is artistry. There's nothing wrong with making fun pop music but people will get bored after a while if you have nothing to say or add. Katy had astronomical highs but she lost the GPs attention by not at least following trends well enough and then making enemies with the wrong people (Taylor Swift). Gaga on the other hand, had a "flop" era where everyone, including her own team, were against her and she came back and re-invented herself to show what she had to offer beyond radio hits.

Honestly it's probably because of Gaga that Katy still gets attention nowadays. Had Katy and Gaga not been peers (as in competitors) at the beginning of their careers, Katy probably would have been forgotten like so many pop stars in the past.

That being said, 3 consecutive smash eras is no small feat and perfectly respectable for her to rest on as a pop music titan. Let's just not delude ourselves that the teenage dream katy perry is ever coming back. Not sound, not sales, not vision.

Not really tbh. I mean I expected that Katy would flop eventually like everyone does, I just didn't think it would happen so quickly or three eras in a row. :deadbanana2:

And I never thought Gaga's career was over after 2013 either. I knew she had it in her to make a comeback because of her talent.

Well... yes.

Gaga was always going to come out on top because she has genuine talent. That's no shade to Katy, but it is what it is.

I wouldn't still be stanning Gaga in 2024 if I thought otherwise :gaygacat1:

Katy was never gonna last for long but what's surprising is how fast her downfall happened. It's like people woke up one day and just tossed her away :toofunny2:

Gaga had the vocal talent to fall back on, even when her career was at her worst. She always had the option to orchestrate a successful comeback if she surrounded herself with the right industry people, and she did

I know media labeled ARTPOP as a career ending flop (which wasnt that much of a flop anyways) but as a hardcore stan I was aware of Gagas vocal talent so I was sure she is too talented not to bounce back.

What I didnt imagine was that Roar vs Applause is the last era where Katy had smash hits and was relevant. Her downfall is something for the books

People in the pop bases discredit Joanne, but I strongly believe she is here today with the amount of respect and acclaim due to that (in combination with other smart career decisions, like her Oscar's performance, Super Bowl performance, and A Star Is Born) pivot in her sound and image. It was clear since her debut that she had the talent and vision. I expected her career to continue to grow and take shape well beyond 2014.

It is a shame Witness panned the way it did. For the most part, it is by far her most mature album. I think its reception scared either her, her label, or both, and pushed them back into the Katy box that she seems to have been stuck in since.

It's strange for her to become the Xtina of her generation since Xtina can actually sing on key :biblio:
