Mrnoniee Posted August 16 Posted August 16 (edited) Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey are seriously closing the gap on Taylor Swift's dominance in the music world. With their latest albums, both artists have managed to stay incredibly relevant and chart-topping. Billie's edgy sound and raw emotion continue to resonate with a younger generation, while Lana's dreamy vocals and nostalgic vibe have a timeless appeal. Their recent performances at Festivals have only amplified their star power. It's like they're both in their own lanes, but they're both heading straight for the same finish line. Beyoncé was the dominant force in pop music but no one is talking about her latest effort. Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo, who were poised to be the iT 2024 girls, seem to have kinda faded into the background. Ariana Grande, while still popular (through playlisting only on Streaming), doesn't have the same stranglehold on the charts. Katy Perry and Gaga are still around, but their impact isn't as big as it once was. And Sabrina Carpenter, Chappel Roan etc while promising, are still building their empires. Taylor's still at the top, no doubt, but the competition is fiercer than ever. Who else is seeing Billie and Lana CHECKING T.Swift in the relevancy dept. Discuss Edited August 16 by Mrnoniee 2 4
Sad Beautiful Tragic Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I don't think any of these girls are close to challenging Taylor's dominance. Even if Taylor's commercial success were to wane, they would still be far from catching up.
Brooklyn Baby Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Say it enough and maybe you'll start to believe it yourself 5

Her new single is WASHING off ALL of taylor's recent efforts. Her album with 10 tracks has been STEADILY outstreaming Taylor's album too iirc. Anyway, this isn't about Chart Sucess only. Its about Cultural Impact, Buzz and Discussion too. I'm not saying they're at Taylor's Level, but are really the only relevant people apart from her in Pop. Edited August 16 by Mrnoniee 1
Badgalbriel Posted August 16 Posted August 16 The obsession you all have with comparing your faves to Taylor is truly out of this world. No. They're not. Billie is getting her first successful era since 2019 and Lana will always be a giant in the alt world. But they can't compete. 2
Badgalbriel Posted August 16 Posted August 16 They're definitely above the ones you mentioned, such as Sabrina, Katy, Ariana, etc. But they're still just as big as they were 5 years ago. No growth. And back then, they were already far from closing any gap.
Feanor Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Taylor vs. Billie on the IFPI Top Global Artist Chart in… 2017: #3 vs. N/A 2018: #16 vs. N/A 2019: #1 vs. #4 2020: #2 vs. #5 2021: #2 vs. #7 2022: #1 vs. #16 2023: #1 vs. #20 Things are even more extreme with Lana. For a gap to close, Billie or Lana would have to had the upper hand at any time in recent years. This has never been the case with either artist, even in 2019 and (presumably) 2024, where Billie was at her highest, yet still trailed behind Taylor's domination. 2
JorgeM Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Billie should start to sold out her arenas before questioning anyone reign. 5 minutes ago, Mrnoniee said: Have you seen their streaming numbers? The other single, lunch is already way below. And as you say, it's about cultural impact. Nobody is close to Taylor. Cities received them that they used to do with the Pope in the 60s. Autoplay unfortunately doesn't bring that cultural impact. 1
liam13 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 their catalogs streams are huge when you compare them to other girls. taylor is out streaming both combined every single day of the week so idk, calm down a lil? 1

OrgVisual Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Ariana is literally neck to neck with Lana in Spotify Artist Charts despite not having as many recent releases
