Josh Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Katy thought for sure it'd be a classic for Wedding like Shania Twain's You're Still the One
Parallel Posted August 16 Posted August 16 The chorus is clunky as hell. "Un-cuh-dish-a-nuh-ully" 1 3 7
Bends Posted August 16 Posted August 16 To be honest, it was released too soon after "Roar", and also was sandwiched between promo singles "Dark Horse" and "Walking on Air". 2 1
Arthoe Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Dark Horse outshined it. Unconditionally however is still one of Katy's best songs objectively. 7
Gelato Posted August 16 Posted August 16 (edited) the video is beautiful and i like the post-chorus and bridge, but for the most part there is a huge mismatch between the lyrical flow and the instrumental Edited August 16 by Gelato
Human Fly Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Isnt it Top20 hit? I didnt know you can go Top20 without a gp support.
Mordecai Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Dark Horse is THE definition of an organic hit. Unconditionally was released inbetween two massive hits, something had to give. Still a fantastic song though regardless 1
glitch Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Never heard this song until I joined this website. Every time I see a thread about it I can't even remember what it sounds like. 1 2
Pendulum Posted August 16 Posted August 16 idk about the public but it was Katy and thing song that taught my 13 year old self the word unconditionally in English 1
cyberraga Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Dark Horse overshadowed it. Definitely the best single from PRISM. I always liked the album tracks of PRISM more than the singles though. 1
Simbs Posted August 16 Posted August 16 It was packed between multiple singles of the era and it just happened to be overshadowed by the other more powerful releases. I feel like this could've been a hit too if it had it's own flourishing time, but eh... She got busy with Roar + Dark Horse and after TIHWD reception i feel she just waivered the PRISM attention lol
Rihinvention Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I agree that Dark Horse overshadowed it. Her "promo" singles were too strong, and kinda unnecessary. The song itself was also overshadowed by the controversy of her cultural appropriation performance. 1
Jacobdaniel Posted August 16 Posted August 16 it's not good, unlike stans make it out to be. it gives major disney channel vibes 1
KillingYourCareer Posted August 16 Posted August 16 It's not what they wanted from Katy at the time. 2 hours ago, Princess Aurora said: It was a hit in my country actually Thanks to the GOOD X-Factor performance as opposed to the tragic UK one that sunk the song in Britain! 1
BlueBlue Posted August 16 Posted August 16 (edited) Oh wow this song even after all these years is still very good. The visuals. The music. Well everything was on point. Sadly it was single between Roar and Dark Horse and of course when this came out people were still listening to roar and quickly after that DH became popular. Nowadays single performing like this would be a hit for Katy.. Edited August 16 by BlueBlue
Kiss It Better Posted August 17 Posted August 17 cause it wasn't better than the promo singles (DH/WOA) that were just released weeks prior to that (and also gained tractions) in comparison, when Taylor released Out of The Woods and WTNY as 1989 promo singles, Blank Space (the real 2nd single) was so much better than both, or during Teenage Dream era Not Like The Movies and Circle the Drain were the promo singles, and the real 3rd single was thee Firework
