dreampop Posted August 16 Posted August 16 When a pop girl head gets too big, sometimes they can be brought back down to Earth. - A perfect example I can think of is Madonna in the early 90s. She was on top of the world with back to back smashes such as Vogue, Dick Tracy movie, Blond Ambition Tour, The Immaculate Collection, Truth or Dare movie, Justify My Love Video VHS, A League of Their Own movie, and etc. I can presume in Madonna's mind, she thought when it was time to release a new studio album after smashing with all of those projects after the Like A Prayer album, whatever she released was going to be a guarantee smash. As we all know the Erotica album, Body of Evidence movie, and SEX Book was panned and considered an underperformance in sales. Although she kept her artistic integrity, she was indeed humbled and played it safe with her next studio album Bedtime Stories. 1 1

Soda Pop Queen Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Meh, a thread of moments where male artists got humbled would be more interesting. Pop girls are female so in essence, society is always looking for them to be humbled no matter what. Men, less so. 3
ThePopStop Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Basically anytime an artist flops they're humbled. But I'd say the good stories of being humbled is when they were overconfident and/or arrogant beforehand. Xtina with Bionic and Lotus. Gaga with ARTPOP. Fergie with Double Dutchess. Her label either dropped her because she refused to scrap it and release something else OR they dropped her and she still released it independently. Black Eyed Peas thinking they could replace their success without Fergie. Taylor Swift with Lover the song. You can tell she wanted it to be her version of Ed's "Perfect" - a wedding ballad. But it flopped as a single. 1

He thought he'd be having Harry's level of solo success by now.

Xtripped Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Witness, she was ready to fight TS but it backfired. Applause, the leak was obviously planned because she was feeling invincible but Roar was too big I fear.
