She should be legally forbidden from doing anything that's not rock- pop/punk adjacent.

AGREED! This is perfection, truly. Takes me make to the Laguna Beach days for some reason :foxaylove2:

Meh, pretty standard Halsey affair. Everything she's put out this era feels like a rehash of a sound she's already tried, though I do like LITM and The End. She's never topping IICHLIWP, I fear.

LITM is still my favorite but this is a bop. Best single so far in terms of catchiness and hit potential. :clap3:

LOVE this!  She absolutely devoured!  Sounds like a smash hit, hope they give it a big push!

And yes, sounds very 3AM, but that's a good thing!  3AM is incredible!

I'm glad people are enjoying Ego. Stop if you liked it

Spoiler

Wish I could say the same. It's laid on too thick. Feels hyperconscious of what it's trying to do, stilted & unnatural, like a bad movie. Pastiche. Like being hit over the head with a moodboard of references. The concept of this era/rollout unfortunately puts the spotlight on how sorely she lacks a sound of her own. Manic was the same, a scattered mess with high highs & low lows & no identity. She's at a point in her career where there's no room for excuses. She got away with that then shrugging it off as "I was manic". It's album 5 & she's spent more time playing pretend than being herself. Don't see this connecting with the public at all. So disappointing. She's always hiding behind savvy ideas & never getting vulnerable (The End wasn't a real risk, the presentation of it made it impervious to any kind of criticism whatsoever). It feels like she has no skin in the game & plays it way too safe. The pop punk revival needs to sink back into the swamp it rose out of. It'd be more of a gag if she dropped a song that sounded like Closer than this "I hate my parents" core bs. "I'm just a rock chick, I like to rock out" teas. Cringy, played out & trend chasing with the audacity to act like it's even remotely countercultural. This song pissed me tf off. She's capable of so much more than this

While I enjoy this era and the songs - I agree with you (it just doesn't bother me that much). The concept of different music eras is great but these songs very rarely touch the essence of the sound of these decades but most importantly they never go beyond the pastiche which is a bit reductive. I think I will enjoy the album anyway but there was a potential here to do something greater

This is very Avril Lavigne/ Pink 2008. The chorus is very noisy.

I love this. It's no LITM but still really good and like an elevated version of 3am. The album is shaping up to be one of the best of the year.

This needs to be a hit. Cmon @Columbia pull up the Flowers/As It Was autoplay.

This has grown on me a lot, and I already liked it, but it is THAT good when it hits. God, there's something about the background "na na na na na" is so infectious.

Glad to see it taking off on Pop, c'mon Columbia push ittttt :jonny5:
