sunbathinganimal Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) Katy Perry has never been a critic darling, with her previous albums receiving Metacritic scores of 47, 52, 61, 53, and 58 respectively. However, the press has been particularly harsh this era, thanks in no small part to Katy's decision to return to Dr Luke. Do you think 143 could earn the lowest Metacritic score of the year, under Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's Vultures 2 with 42? Edited August 14 by sunbathinganimal
halcyonday Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Watch it be the most panned album of all time at this point. 11 1
Edonis Posted August 14 Posted August 14 of course! we can't expect anything less for this record-breaker! 3
alfonso12 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 It'll be hard to surpass Kanye but she'll probably have the record among females. 1
gay interrupted Posted August 14 Posted August 14 They're going to eviscerate it even if the album ends up being decent 2

Wicked Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Kanye's music is bad and he has the worst reputation right now, it'll be hard to get lower than 42. Most criticism is overly positive these days folks don't get PANNED fr like they used to.
TaylorsSquad Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Katy has always been panned watch her score be lower than her debut even.
SupremeGoddess Posted August 14 Posted August 14 It'll be the second . She's not getting the top of anything this year i'm afraid. 4
ZacXCX Posted August 14 Posted August 14 OOTB got 47? Damn. That's wild. Critics are less harsh on pop girls now, but her reputation's never been worse (reference intended) and I don't think critics are THAT afraid of Katycats, so it'll probably even out and she'll remain in her 50-ish average.
truthteller Posted August 14 Posted August 14 the sympathy and payola will be kicking in. Have faith in Capitol!
Ramcoro Posted August 14 Posted August 14 A good chance. They hate her. Not like it means much. They will be reviewing her image and producer and not the quality of the album. Even Smile and Witness did marginally better than Teenage Dream and One of the Boys. Does anyone think Smile and Witness deserve better scores than TD and OOTB?
Big Bad Wolf Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Yep - it's shaping up to be the biggest panned flop of the decade. And they say Katy can no longer break records!
shookspeare Posted August 14 Posted August 14 she's an easy target and they have no backlash to fear since katy cats are essentially an extinct species at this point so yes 2

Bloodflowers. Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Judging by the outdated generic Ava Max rejected B-side turds she dropped that sound like they were written by AI, absolutely. Hopefully that will inspire her to make pop rock and accustic singer-songwriter album as a follow-up and start getting critical acclaim
vince_martin88 Posted August 15 Posted August 15 from 5 number 1 singles to 5 panned albums. Fadty has the range. When will the other pop girlies? 2
Roberto Posted August 15 Posted August 15 It's gonna be something about 45/55, just like most of her career.
