halcyonday Posted August 14 Posted August 14 "my reputation has never been worse" - Taylor Swift, Delicate, 2017 Katy's been a punching bag for the online users since 2017, and now that also the 143 era has been an entire mess... Do you think Katy could snap and serve us (finally) a darker era a la Blackout/Reputation that focuses on her online image and how she feels about everything that's been going on around her? Does Katy still have in her to actually come back to her 2008's songwriting and wake up? Can she start being self aware? Can she drop the YES MAAM men around her and shook the world once again? Can she prove the haters wrong? NO MORE LIGHT & LOVE. NO MORE BUTTERFLIESS AND RAINBOWS. NO MORE 3-4 YEARS BREAKS. SERVE US YOUR "PIECE OF ME" AND "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO".
Popular Post Big Bad Wolf Posted August 14 Popular Post Posted August 14 She doesn't have the range, depth, talent, or nerve to do something like that, I fear…. 27
RideOrDie Posted August 14 Posted August 14 her reputation era was burning the wig in that teaser then releasing roar, so no I don't think she has anything of the sort in her 9
shoganai Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Last years ppl were blaming not working with Dr. Puke as the main reason of her decline. And look how tables have turned now.
alexrex Posted August 14 Posted August 14 You guys need to stop the Katy threads. Yes, she flopped once again, and well deserved for being a fake feminist and a terrible artist. But it's too much already. Why not dragging Dr Luke instead?
Cry Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Well, judging by how her "dark era" was Prism and her "bad blood" was Swish Swish… I feel inclined to say no.
Saintlor Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) Love her but no. Taylor and Britney released Blackout/1989 at a time that was simultaneously their fame peaks and the time where they got the most hate out of any celebrity. Katy isn't at her fame peak and unfortunately the 2 singles from 143 have made me question if she's still got it I really wish she could somehow pull it off though Edited August 14 by Saintlor
Popboi. Posted August 14 Posted August 14 reputation was Taylor toying with the nicknames she was given (snake, serial dater, manipulative), I don't think Katy would want to do the same when her allegations are rapist enabler, vapid and dune destroyer 7

vipanonymous Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I doubt we get any album after 143. Maybe in 2032 a cute GH.

If anything she should completely detach herself from the narrative and do something unexpected. Each time she engaged with anything dumb, it only came back to haunt her (especially the if couldn't love me when flopping, you don't deserve me at my KP6 joke). Doing a dark dance/electro pop album now would be seen as too cliche and that's exactly what she doesn't need.
Gelato Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) hmm I don't think so. Taylor had a hate train but she was still a very strong album seller so producers would still put in a shift when working with her, meaning Reputation ended up being a great album. And for all her troubles at the time, Britney was heavily involved in the creative process for Blackout. Katy's artistry doesn't really shine through when she's making pop music, and the people who put the pieces together for her in previous eras are either cancelled/washed (Luke) or won't give her their best material since she doesn't sell many copies anymore (Max Martin). She should make music that's authentic to her, especially since she has the freedom to do so at this stage of her career. Edited August 14 by Gelato

єѕℓαм Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I have to admit it's kinda adorable that yall think this woman might have any type of success 1
Breathe On Moi Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Katy's personal life has not been affected the way Britney and Taylor's were at those times tbh. Katy's personal life is literally fantastic lol zero complaints. She's overdue for a stripped down album, it's that simple. Even if it would "flop" I think she's far beyond caring about that at this point. It's kinda a blessing for her, she can release whatever she wants: 1
Breathe On Moi Posted August 14 Posted August 14 and to side-add, it's an absolute blasphemy to speak of Blackout and Reputation in the same sentence, eek. 2 1 2
Onyxmage Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) Taylor never had a true flop era so putting her in the same category as blackout is wild. The answer is yes. Katy makes basic pop music but for some reason chooses to work with Producers that dont bring out the best of her. Is it possible to pull a blackout era? Yes. Is it probable NO but never say never. Edited August 14 by Onyxmage
Trash Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I think we've seen her as edgy as she gets on One of The Boys

BrokenMachine Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I thought this was gonna be a set up thread from some Katy hater... not from a stan OT: No
TaylorsSquad Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Katy doesn't have the range for a reputation Era and Taylor has yet to flop like either of those two women. The people want an Acoustic mostly self written Album from Katy not Electro-Pop.
RatGod Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I just don't think she has it in her to have another smash era akin to reputation. She's doesn't have the same loyal fanbase Taylor had (and still has only 10x stronger) during rep to mass buy her music and keep her in the public eye. Katy has been so under the radar since her last big moment (probably the superbowl) that the GP just isn't checking on her. There's also the issue with her as an artist. She's just not the driving force behind her art and music anymore so what ends up happening is it just comes off as inauthentic and almost parody sometimes. What she needs to do once this era wraps up in late September is she needs to sit down and re-evaluate who she is as an artist. Her only hope of success in the future is if she finds her own lane that isn't in the main pop sphere. She needs to experiment with her sound, focus on developing herself as an artist and above all else, make sure it's authentic. Or do what Gaga did post-Artpop and diversify herself into different realms and focus on showing the GP how talented she is. Then she can probably salvage a career akin to Carly Rae Jepsen where she flops every era but her fans eat it up and she sees moderate success. Her last Witness, smile, and 143 have made it clear that she's not welcomed back to the main pop stage. (harleys in hawaii smashing on tiktok is not a real indicator of success unfortunately)
