Lagerfeld Posted August 12 Posted August 12 All four women are known for their incredibly acclaimed bodies of work. However, only Billie and Taylor managed to win the Album of the Year at the GRAMMY awards. Why did the critics snub Gaga and Bey? 1 15
GraceRandolph Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Black women tend to get neglected in the big categories and dance music was ghettoized at Gaga's peak. 9
zoldyck Posted August 12 Posted August 12 - Gaga and Beyonce are more polarizing - They had to go against Adele with their best shot (BTW/21 + Lemonade/25) Although I do think Bey will win one in future. The over-due narrative keeps getting stronger and stronger with each release. 2

Anvarie Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) Beyoncé- 1. Greed that will never be satisfied no matter how much wealth is accumulated 2. Whiteness, boring safe bland non-controversial/political/important music that takes a stand Gaga- 1. Sugar-Rush Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Gaga's music is too ahead of its time for certain people. Although the fact that she's been nominated so many times gives me some hope that she'll win AOTY someday. 1
Lose My Breath Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Critics snub bey? She's the most acclaimed artist of her generation? 1
cat1867 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Grammys prefer awarding singer-songwriters in AOTY, Taylor and Billie have been far better at marketing themselves as ones compared to Gaga and Beyonce. Beyonce was also hurt by her more critically acclaimed projects having less big hits. Gaga could feasibly win AOTY in the future since her current marketing image is more appealing to the Grammy voters than her peak but she will need to actually release and promote a great album.
Love4Janet Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Beyonce's catalog is mostly terrible. She doesn't even deserve most of the awards she has now, much less the most prestigious one. 3 3
What_A_Mess Posted August 13 Posted August 13 They are better songwriters which trump better singers at the moment
MaxxiPad Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Grammys historically hated Black people/pop music/gays (Gaga's music at peak was too weird for them)
