naval23 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Both are behemoths of 1-2 punches of commercial success and their biggest 1-2 punch in terms of commercial success. But which one do you think is bigger?
Oktober Knight Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Swifties weren't alive to witness the massive impact that Britney had so they'll claim Taylor's eras were bigger. 5 7 2

Swifties on this forum are not 12. Many of us were alive at the time. We also don't have to be pushing 40 to have witnessed Britney's impact. Anyway, I am a stan of both and Britney's eras were bigger. 5
Gorjesspazze9 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Baby One More time was/is more known then any song on either album. 8
Popboi. Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) BOMT - Oops are bigger. Taylor's peak is bigger but that's widespread between huge sales with all her albums the past couple years, not just those 2. Edited August 12 by Popboi. 1
Joey307 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) I get weirdly nostalgic for BOMT and Oops, I wasn't even conceived at that time yet I feel their influence and smashery Girl in the Mirror still makes me cry… Edited August 12 by Joey307 2

Prismee Posted August 12 Posted August 12 You can't isolate just Midnights and TTPD because when discussing 2022-24 Taylor you have to factor in Cruel Summer, the re-recordings, the ERAS TOUR, the concert film's success etc. In that case I would choose Taylor's 2022-24 era 8
mike_int Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Many people don't realize how huge Britney was from 1999 to 2004 She was literally the biggest star int the world, she was everywhere, everybody knew who she was and all of that without social media. People actually had to make an effort and go by the records and magazines, wait on front of the TV to see the videos. This is something streams will never be comparable. 6

I feel like britney's were bigger (I'm not gonna analyse numbers, they just feel bigger to me) but if we are talking about the years of those eras... hence including CS, the eras tour and the impact taylor is having, her 2022-2024 is bigger than britney's entire career 🤣 1
TouchinFree Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Both songs, Oops and Baby one more time alone are bigger and more iconic than anything Taylor. Lbr.

Blackout2006 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 For those going OOT, Britney's peak and starlight will always be the biggest of the 21st century. You can imagine how much she dominated international conversations, headlines, charts, discussions, and the burgeoning internet when she is still talked about nearly 30 years after she debuted. She is the reason ATRL was made in the first place. BOMT and OIDIA are both some of the biggest pop hits of all time. Unfortunately, a lot of her views were reset with the Vevo channel but they would have amassed over a billion viewers. OIDIA in the early 2000s shifted 2.5 million copies worldwide. Don't give me the tired "GoLdeN aGe Of SaLeS!!1!" argument when she is the only one among her solo peers (besides Eminem, I think) to achieve such a feat. At that time, she was the most glorified pop artist in the world. Both those albums were so huge that the sales of 'Britney' were viewed as commercially underwhelming even if it was selling at the same rate as other albums at the time that were considered successful. Both these eras changed the standards of what a commercial juggernaut female popstar looked like after the era of Madonna, and to this day the influence of these eras is present. I think only Gaga and Taylor have been the only female artists to since come close to replicating such a peak but they still pale in comparison. 2
Blackout2006 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Also, both those albums are diamond-certified? Like? 1
Robyn. Posted August 12 Posted August 12 It's Britney, but then again I'd argue that 1989 is more comparable to BOMT/Oops than these two uneventful albums...
Rev8 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I think Taylor would have a better chance with other eras instead of Mid/TP BOMT/OIDIA are hugely impactful and influential for the music at that time (and even now) I know ATRL refuses to give Britney her flowers when she is compared to someone else, but in this case - it's pretty evident which one will probably be more remembered with their visuals and songs; the immediate impact is also there, with the Britney clones from every label/every country..
MattieB Posted August 12 Posted August 12 The one that collectively sold 50 million plus pure albums 1
bielneira Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Thinking about the commercial success of the albums alone, I'd say Taylor Swift. If we add impact, Britney.
