duybeeGAshantiGA Posted August 9 Posted August 9 (edited) It's mind blowing that she is the only artist ever that people stream the hell out of her music without any solid hit. She is no Taylor, Adele or Beyonce. She is no Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears or Ariana. She is no Mariah, Madonna or Whitney. She is no Billie, Olivia or Sabrina. Every single artist who has high streaming numbers has big hits attached to their names. But there's one artist who has almost no real hit but people stream her music as a whole (as in albums and her whole discography). She is LANA DEL REY. The way she is among or even above some of the artists mentioned above on streaming despite having no hit songs like how all of them have. They all have mega hits that peaked at #1 on the Hot 100. So pleasr don't even mention Summertime Sadness or Young and Beautiful because they are not the hits like Poker Face, Crazy in Love, We Found Love, We Belong Together, Like a Prayer, Blank Space, Bad guy, driver license, 7 Rings, Rolling in the Deep, etc. They are basically MEGA SMASHES THAT WENT #1. How did she even achieve that? It's a mystery. That is when you know we got a music legend from this generation. Edit: don't bring sales in here since BTD is one of the best selling female albums ever. Edited August 9 by duybeeGAshantiGA 2 3 1
A-V-XYZ Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Lana's not a legend and will never be 1. Using this logic, artists like Dua and Demi are legends too. 3 16

Dua has huge hits wyd? She has several HUGE hits Dont Start Now, Levitating, Dance the Night, New Rules... And.... Demi? When has Demu come close to the streaming numbers of Lana Del Rey? Sugden Posted August 9 Posted August 9 she has many hits tho her songs just dont usually follow the usual chart rules, they get bigger and popular with the times 2
NOW Posted August 9 Posted August 9 2 minutes ago, A-V-XYZ said: Lana's not a legend and will never be 1. Using this logic, artists like Dua and Demi are legends too. Dua's music gets pushed constantly on pop streaming playlists and radio stations, when did that happen for Lana? Have Dua and Demi also had this many artists calling their work inspirational or influential? Brooklyn Baby Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Lana does have one, but the point still stands She is a legend
duybeeGAshantiGA Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 Just now, Sugden said: she has many hits tho her songs just dont usually follow the usual chart rules, they get bigger and popular with the times They are lowkey hits because people simple stream those songs voluntarily. They are not the typical hits all of the big artists usually get. So in fact, you kinda proved my point.
Breakdown Posted August 9 Posted August 9 the world doesn't revolve around the US (where summertime sadness remix was a hit). video games and og summertime sadness were massive in europe. 1 1
Dialamba Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Every day she has a new trendy song on tik tok. I wouldn't say she doesn't have hits but she doesn't have a signature song.
visions Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I think people are missing the point. It's not that she doesn't have songs that can be called hits, but she doesn't have the typical Billboard hits of artists of her size. OP is just saying, her hits don't carry her numbers. Her numbers are strong because people are streaming her albums and discography as a whole, without the industry standard "lead single" etc. helping push the projects. In other words… Stop acting brand new and give Lana her flowers 2 1
Material Girl Posted August 9 Posted August 9 she has multiple hits, summertime sadness and young & beautiful were huge
TakeYouToHell Posted August 9 Posted August 9 She literally has hits? In what world Summertime Sadness is not a hit?

AshleyLovescats887 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 (edited) 'A&W' has won 4 Grammys and charted in the top 10 for a year in my brain Edited August 9 by AshleyLovescats887 clarification 1 2
Popboi. Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Billboard is clearly not her barometer of success as her main markets are Europe and South America, and in US her radio airplay is low as most her singles are only sent to AAA and Alternative radio but not to pop - so her peaks are handicapped by default. She has a lot of songs with enough streams to be called hits, also a few tiktok viral moments that got big streams as well (like Cinnamon Girl and Stargirl).
Sazare Posted August 9 Posted August 9 What's your point here? Congrats to Lana on having 0 hits I guess.
Bacardo Royale Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Chart hits are not the only measure of success anymore, welcome to the streaming era.
VioletsandRoses Posted August 9 Posted August 9 All the BTD singles were hits in Europe. Thats the reason why BTD debuted high and kept selling well. Video Games and Summertime sadness were also huge in LATAM. Here in Asia her biggest hit is Young and Beautiful. It's only the US that Summertime Sadness was her only chart hit 1
ScorpiosGroove Posted August 9 Posted August 9 how are video games, born to die, blue jeans, summertime sadness and young & beautiful not huge hits ? even songs like doin time, say yes to heaven, west coast or stargirl interlude are all huge streaming hits ? they're just not conventional cookie cutter radio hits like most of the other girls mentioned but these couple songs alone have billions of streams and are known by many many people, young and old ? 2 3
