Seahorse Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Everything just feels like a cheap imitation of the past. Why listen to new music when you can listen to the much superior older music that the new song ripped off? 1 1
Into The Void Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Yeah but I would get bored of listening to only old music all the time I want songs I haven't heard yet 4
Prodigal Self Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Go listen to HAGS then and their original music from eons ago
teresaguidice Posted August 8 Posted August 8 lots of pop was derivative or nostalgia bait back in the day too, its just the more innovative or influential music is what has stuck around decades later. same will be true for music today. 6 1
Trent W Posted August 8 Posted August 8 To be fair 80% the artists of the 00s and 2010s this forum stans for were already doing the same in their time everyone takes influences and does different versions from the past 2 1

Digitalism Posted August 8 Posted August 8 (edited) Mainstream artists were already stealing from smaller and older artists back then. There's still experimentation going on but it takes time to become mainstream. Edited August 8 by Digitalism 5 1

Slap Posted August 8 Posted August 8 You're probably getting old and experiencing the "music was better in my day the new stuff is ****" phenomenon. There's lots of great music maybe not in the top 100 on Spotify though.
Junipero Posted August 8 Posted August 8 (edited) I think this is a common thinking to everyone of any time period who is between the ages of 18-22. Katy was not seen as original either. Lady Gaga emulated A LOT of her mannerisms from Leila K. Cyndi Lauper emulated her vocals from 1920's singer Helen Kane... etc... Madonna from Maryland Mon Row, and apparently people argued that she was stealing Cyndi's style by trying to be the anti-Cyndi. Here is the scene in which her mannerisms slightly resemble early-The Fame-Gaga Edited August 8 by Junipero 1 1
