This is honestly one of my favorite debut singles from any pop girl, it's such a bop from start to finish. She exudes so much confidence and sass and that bridge is just the cherry on top I can't believe it's 16 already, I remember when the video came out and I would play with my mop as a microphone pretending to be in the music video.

we wish that was the reason. it's the health (both physical -lupus- and mental)

 

the way she's not a writer in Mi Camino and lost the Calm Down Grammy Eligible Date for 1 week and didn't release another version to be eligible. 

2 of the easiest Grammy AND Oscar noms ever! 

And with Calm Down not even a nom, a win!! it's crystal clear that it would've easily won the Afrobeat category.

It's a mix of both tho. She got clearly upset that Love On did not get the recognition she wanted since she was super excited to release a happy poppy album.

I never understood this given that the second that "insider" post about Interscope forcing Sel to put out upbeat pop music when she wanted to make a mid-tempo album in the vein of GFY/Fetish, she posted stills from GFY/Fetish on IG and said "I hear you guys". I always thought the og SG3 was an edgier mid-tempo record based on the producers and writers she was seen with, I never got the impression she wanted to put out an upbeat happy pop album (she also said in that interview that SG3 doesn't sound like Love On).

That "insider" was fake. Selena has stated multiple times since 2022 eg: My Mind & Me premiere that she wanted to do a very pop, upbeat and fun pop album since she was really happy. The "I Hear You Guys" stuff started after Love On became her worst performing single of her career and that's why they went back to the drawing board and said that SG3 does not reflect that sound.
