Was Jesy Nelson's extreme backlash unwarranted?

Boyz era was a complete disaster for her but I feel like especially now she's completely vilified by Little Mix fans for existing. In a recent video she expressed in tears about how she lost her confidence to even continue releasing music.

Whether you think Boyz was good or not, I still think the amount of hate she got for it was crushing. And the live where Nicki shaded Leigh-Anne was an awkward moment, but I can understand from her perspective that Nicki is a collaborator and it'd be awkward to just speak out especially on a very public live in the moment.

Then the live performance where she tried to stretch out Boyz to 10 minutes was not great either... But not deserved of so much hate. Jesy is a talented performer and singer and having such an important performance in her career being so magnified as a disaster completely ruined her reputation, a lot with the UK general public.

I still think she has potential to deliver something great as well, but after her label dropping her, everything has been a mess.

I couldn't imagine the amount of stress/pain she must've felt in this time, especially being the first from Little Mix to go solo and for it to go so wrong... What do yall think?

Girl after boys no one gave a ****. Her 2nd single barely crossed 1 mil on Spotify after being out for over a year.

Nicki making a comment about a fake DM from Leigh Anne and not calling her out is bullying Little Mix now?

To that degree, I'd say yes. She definitely needed a better understanding of why her aesthetics were cartoonish and appropriation, but I do think she's a nice person at heart and didn't deserve the pile-on. That's not going to encourage anyone to educate themselves and should be reserved for other individuals.

Even though she deserved to be called out on the tanning and stuff I do believe it has gone too far. I feel like there has been enough time for people to let her breathe, she's significantly lighter and toned down.

The amount of hate and abuse she gets is insane. People forget she has severe mental health issues and body dismorphia, this woman has tried to end her life twice over trolling and people still do it. I still see tweets about her appearance and people tell her to end her life 'properly' this time, it is disgusting.

It is fine to not like her but the constant barrage of hate is too much. A lot of people tan a lot in the UK, it is 'normal', whether right or wrong. A lot of the people that hate or also fans of people like Ariana, Christina, the Kardashians but the only issue is with Jesy? Odd.

I also think the majority of the hate is performative. Also, I find it highly hypocritcal as Leigh-Anne's bestfriend is darker than Jesy and what you would describe as a 'blackfish', as is Perrie's sister. If you're gonna call someone out, apply the same anger to everyone else otherwise it does look like you pick and choose and that you're only hating because you're not friends anymore.

Anyway, i'm sure this thread will be an example of all the hateful comments she gets and ignore her severe mental health issues.

I hope people can move on from hating on her so much. I'm seeing complain now she is lighter? It is insane, people wanted her to tone down and now theya re mad about it?

It feels like she can't win and It sometimes seems like some people wont stop until she actually ends her life.

If you don't like her, that is fine just atleast be respectful or just ignore anything to do with her. The twitter stuff is disgusting.

Is there any song that warrants stanning her?

The backlash really wasn't as bad as some people try to make out now. She was in the news for a week and then it went quiet. Then she did that embarrassing Jingle Bell Ball performance and she was dragged again for a bit.

If it had literally just been the blackfishing I don't think people would've cared that much. But the cringe factor of the "UK Baddie", the try-hard bag girl image, laughing when Nicki dragged Leigh-Anne on ig live, a truly terrible spray tan that even girls from Chelmsford and Colchester would've baulked at, and a pretty mediocre song were enough to turn her into a laughing stock.

Compared to a lot of people like Miley or JLo, the backlash was pretty mild. Even Ariana's recent cheating scandal felt like bigger news.

the damage has been done and her career is over

Her getting called out for black fishing and clowning with Nicki? Yes. Cause of the song being a mess? Absolutely. For putting Leigh-Anne on an extremely awk situation (even after tossing the girls to the side as if they meant nothing to her)? Also yes.

But people wishing death on her, body shaming etc is never warranted.

When there's- still to this day- zero accountability on her part, people are unforgiving. That smirk when Nicki talked sh** about Leigh-Anne said more about her intentions than the victim portrayal of it all.

sorry but allowing nicki to drag your sister of 10 years on live and then ignore the blackfishing allegations by doubling down on it…was nasty work. there's no defending that. maybe if she publicly apologised to leigh ann for the harassment she received, things might be different.

Her album got scrapped by her label because of the backlash, she doesnt even have rights to release any of that anyway.

No, she deserves it, it's called karma.

Would you defend someone who is telling influencers to make negative videos about you? Like sit back and think, no you would not.

Hate was definitely orchestrated by her bandmates and their team, funny how all those stories about her being problematic only got out once she left the band, i guess they didn't feel the need to talk about it when she was with them, but once she was out it became a problem. Interesting timing.

I understood the criticism she got around the aesthetics of the Boyz era and the way that whole campaign was handled, but it did massively go overboard and just became bullying.

Does this matter when JADE demolishes her, on every single level, as a solo pop star?

this thread again...?

A backlash for her actions was fully warranted, but as usual the internet jumped on an extreme hate bandwagon and took it too far. Especially after she flopped, which always makes everyone very comfortable to cyber bully strangers online to a weird degree

Her career is over and will never recover. She should change careers completely. Maybe become a music/dance teacher or whatever and focus on her mental health. This is obviously not for her.

Posted

Thing is, I don't think she understands or wants to acknowledge the root of the backlash.

Did she ever properly address her blackfishing ways and why they're problematic?

Well, she was dropped by the label after that so it's up to you:skull:

No, it was deserved. Her trying to spin it as unnecessary hate proves she did not learn anything from it.
