Cain Posted August 3 Posted August 3 So obviously, electropop and EDM were huge genres in the late 00s and early 2010s, with both popgirls (Gaga, Rihanna, Kesha) and DJs (David Guetta, Swedish House Maffia, Avicii) ruling the airwaves and charts with their dance bangers That all fizzled out in the mid 2010s and by the late 2010s dance was very much not a thing on the (US) charts anymore, instead hiphop and slower songs had taken over Now we've seen a resurgence of Discopop and adjacent genres like house inspired pop in the early 2020s, but nothing too gritty has been brought back yet With the unexpected popularity of Brat, and the #1 song on US Spotify rn being a brash electronic dance song, do you think EDM and electropop could make a comeback in the mainstream? *I guess this is about the US charts as dance is obviously always a thing in Europe and that's never gone away 1
SpaceOddity Posted August 3 Posted August 3 It ******* better. I need more club music in the mainstream. 1
JO1s Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Nah hyperpop will probably be the next big sound not 2010s edm/electronic music. 1

UrMom Posted August 3 Posted August 3 The Gen-Zers I work with love this type of music and have a lot of childhood nostalgia for it, so I will say yes. 1
єѕℓαм Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I hope so cos i can't ******* stand those boring ass songs on the charts 1
Dante Silva Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a country where only left-field Charli has a high profile and not her mainstream nemesis Becky Hill, the U.K's other Dance Queen (with 16.7 million monthly Spotify listeners): If Becky breaks the America then perhaps that will be a sign EDM is being embraced by the U.S. again (or maybe she's destined to be regional). 2
youmustbeupgraded Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) It already is. But because of streaming and algorithms, there's never going to be a "mass" genre or trend like there has been in the past. People aren't forced to listen to what is on the radio anymore and are able to listen to their own curated niche's/pretty much whatever they want. Edited August 3 by youmustbeupgraded 1
