jakeisphat Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The New York Times has announced that Kamala Harris' VP vetting process is now complete. By Tuesday, she will announce her running mate pick for the 2024 election. Regardless of who you believe she will pick, who from the shortlist would you prefer as her vice presidential nominee - and why? Andy Beshear, Governor of Kentucky Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mark Kelly, U.S. Senator from Arizona J.B. Pritzker, Governor of Illinois Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota Quote The law firm hired by the Harris campaign to investigate potential vice-presidential candidates has completed its work, leaving the final decision — the most important yet of the still-new campaign — squarely in Vice President Kamala Harris's hands. Covington & Burling, the Washington law firm tasked with the vetting, completed the job on Thursday afternoon and turned over its findings to Ms. Harris, according to two people briefed on the process. . . . Those officials participated in an extensive and intrusive process that included hourslong videoconference interviews with former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who once oversaw Barack Obama's vice-presidential vetting, and Dana Remus, a former White House counsel for President Biden and an outside legal counsel for the Harris campaign. . . . Former staff members in her Senate office and on her 2020 presidential campaign said that while she valued competence and loyalty, she also required a high level of personal rapport and comfort with people with whom she would work closely. "At the end of the day, it's going to come down to who can she have a relationship with, who can have the hard conversations with her," said Senator Laphonza Butler, a California Democrat who has known Ms. Harris for more than a decade and served as a senior adviser on her 2020 presidential campaign. "This is somebody she's going to have to see on a fairly regular basis for the next four years. And you got to do more than just tolerate them. There has to be some genuine like and care and a good vibe." . . . Ms. Harris, who began the process last week with just 12 contenders, has not yet met in person with any of her top choices. That tight time frame will test what former aides describe as Ms. Harris's thorough, sometimes lawyerly approach to absorbing information before a big decision. "She's somebody who wants to be briefed on every possible scenario around every issue that she's confronted with," Mr. Brokaw said. He added, "She moves fast once a decision is made." https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/01/us/politics/kamala-harris-vp-search.html?smid=url-share
Armani? Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Waltz is the best choice including messaging wise but it probably won't happen for a multitude of reasons including him being the most far left policy wise and also being from a safe blue state. Beshear is the best wild card. Southern White man from a red state that can probably appeal to some rural voters & White voters. Policy wise also fair enough & center left for most things. A Shapiro ticket would immediately usher in talks about him hiding sexual harassment, they can literally just pick Mark Kelly if they want to please their donors and sidestep working class people which is what is expected 8
LegaMyth Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) Pita Bread or Barney & Friends likely. ...but, my personal choice... Edited August 2 by LegaMyth

Ewan Chaos Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Girl I didn't even know who the last person was Beshear >/= Walz >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kelly > Pritzker > Buttigieg >/= Shapiro I feel like I like Beshear & Walz about the same, but I feel like Beshear has a better chance and I personally feel like he has maybe one or two more advantages to being VP and keeping Walz as an attack dog stump for Kamala.

Bernie is much more cognitively fit than Biden, and the VP's age is less of an issue but I agree.
americanlife Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Beshear or Kelly. Tim Walz looks too old even though he's only 60.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted August 2 ATRL Moderator Posted August 2 Walz or Beshear. Didn't know young Tim Walz was such a snack, though.
Bethenny Frankel Posted August 2 Posted August 2 It's between Walz, Kelly and Beshear to me. Picking Shapiro would make Kamala instantly lose Michigan even if it helps her win Pennsylvania.
