AmericanIdol Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Record new songs, everything on that album sounds and is a huge flop. 1 11
blown away Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Gypsy had potential to have been a cute little hit. But in all honesty, nothing from the album would've smashed.
bunnyeyes Posted August 1 Posted August 1 No promo, no lead up surprise drop of the entire album, push whatever gp resonates with but no stress on h100 placementsย

psychodiva336 Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) IMO Applause was just fine for the first single, but I'd definitely push Dope, ARTPOP and Venus as following singles. And Gypsy! This song is literally a career highlight and I can't believe it's wasting away as an album track.ย ย So basically: Applause as the lead, Dope for the album announcement + preorders, ARTPOP on album release day, Venus and Gypsy after the album drops with Gypsy closing the era. All with music videos - Gypsy could have artRAVE clips added to it and make a very cute tribute to the fans Edited August 1 by psychodiva336
Breakdown Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) let's be real, none. and radio wouldn't have touched a song called sexxx dreams, bffr. the era was doomed from the start and there was nothing she could have done except for acting like a sane person on social media maybe. Dula Peep Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Applause aged like fine wine and DWUW (most single worthy track on the album) would've been 10x better without R Kellyย Then I would've released Gypsy as the final singleย 3

bushwick Posted August 1 Posted August 1 There was NO saving this masturbatory project, especially not on American airwaves when songs like Roar and Dark Horse were smashing. ย ย 1
swissman Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) tbh just her releasing G.U.Y. plus the video as is, no changes as the first single would have changed the trajectory of the era. ย after the relative "dark" qualities of Born This Way, it would have felt fresh from her and though it's visually sunny, it still has that dark critical tone that had been her hallmark. Comparatively, APPLAUSE was simply too moody and the lyrics far too self-indulgent to really resonate with fans and the public who up until ARTPOP, seemed to easily find themselves in all herย lyrics. The single and many of its performances broke the fourth wall and so it was off-putting and not entirely entertaining. Consequently it got her less applause, so clearly it didn't work. ย VENUS could have made a nice second single, or even the title track. I know overall she really wanted to project the image of being "artsy" and that involved a lot of ugly looks and even more perplexing gimmicks and performance pieces, but I think what it needed was overall a more positive tone. If she wanted to bring art into pop, she needed to not neglect the pop part of the equation, which is all about artifice and fun. She could have made more use of the "reverse Warholian experience" had she better utilized pop art as her muse rather than the more stoic art styles and artists she referenced. ย The cover was somewhat disliked at the time but I think it does a good job of doing what it needed to do, but the sound didn't really match its look. ย ย Edited August 1 by swissman 2
ััโฮฑะผ Posted August 1 Posted August 1 The music was too experimental, aggressive, raunchy and weird for the gp to handleย truly ahead of its time
