Mattically Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Not the greatest, but it bops, it was fresh sonically, and there was a cohesive vision behind the music video. Cute. But there were better choices for singles from PRISM.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I've never liked this song, at best I always considered this filler. I was really baffled when she released this as a single from PRISM. She had already fumbled big making Birthday the immediate follow up to Dark Horse with that terrible MV, and then she had the chance to correct course by making OBVIOUS smash Walking On Air the Summer/Fall 2014 single... instead she released this.

I remember when Princess Nokia said "**** Katy Perry" in a 2014 interview for allegedly doing cultural appropriation in this video. I wasn't aware that Princess Nokia said something about Katy. Damn ! But I'm not surprised cuz Katy lowkey was accused of cultural appropriation throughout the entire PRISM era (AMAs performance, Dark Horse MV, TIHWD MV, Prismatic World Tour). Like it was bad for her ! So I think you're right about that period being the time when her public perception started to change.
naval23 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Released as the final 5th single of "Prism" It peaked at #24 on the Hot 100, becoming her first single since "Thinking of You" over 5 years prior to miss the top 20 on the Hot 100 and only her 2nd single overall to miss the top 20. It peaked at #9 in Canada.
Le Grande Posted August 3 Posted August 3 As someone who has disliked her since around CG, I somehow didn't mind this. I didn't mind that it flopped either.
