sunbathinganimal Posted July 31 Posted July 31 most offensive song — Woman's World most offensive video — You Need to Calm Down 1 1
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted July 31 Posted July 31 They're both bad. But one is kinda listenable on a day you're in a good mood and maybe a little drunk. Woman's World is irredeemable garbage. Hopefully WW signifies the official end of "self empowerment" anthems. Not even the groups they both respectively pander to want them. 6
smartalek22 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Idc what anyone says YNTCD is worse than Woman's World on both despite everything 2
wastedpotential Posted July 31 Posted July 31 YNTCD has a cunty bassline and (to the best of my knowledge) didn't have any rapists involved in its creation. The lyrical sentiment is just as clunky as WW, but it's better produced and is ethically cleaner 3
bielneira Posted July 31 Posted July 31 "You Need To Calm Down" for best song, and "Woman's World" for best music video.

SLUTTVFTV Posted July 31 Posted July 31 the bar is in hell but at least I don't feel guilty about streaming YNTCD (proud to say I've never streamed WW once )
TayDuaStan Posted July 31 Posted July 31 YNTCD for both. It's not even bad. You'll hate it cuz it followed ME! and it was cool back then to hate everything Taylor related. On the the other hand, Woman's World is a crime against music, probably the worst song of the century
Moonlight Nation Posted July 31 Posted July 31 "You Need To Calm Down" thoroughly fails as an anthem to the LGBTQ+ community. But the first verse focusing on mocking online hate works for its purpose and the song has a genuinely great bridge calling out stans' obsession of piting talented female artists against each other (even if it seemingly went over most Swifties' heads). This means that while misguided in its execution, there are foundations for a decent enough song in here. The biggest mistake was tackling celebrity haters and homophobes on the same song, as if these were in any way comparable, thus making the allyship effort come across as self-centered and tone deaf. Meanwhile, "Woman's World" 's premise was conceptually doomed to be cringeworthy at best, and Katy approached it in the most corporate and soulless way possible. And that's not even getting into the Dr. Luke element of it, which automatically destroyed any integrity to the supposed feminist message Katy was aiming for. As for the music videos, both look really tacky and cheap, but as pandering and performative as "You Need To Calm Down" 's video is, at least it had a decent and coherent premise behind it, not to mention some nice moments like Taylor's scenes in the first third and the drag queens honouring the pop girls. Bonus points for the petition supporting the Equality Act at the end of the video. On the other hand, everything about the "Woman's World" music video feels icky. Taylor gets my vote for both.
Gladiator Posted July 31 Posted July 31 You Need to Calm Down has the most infectious beat. I'm not really here for the lyrics, but that song is so likely to randomly get stuck in my head with the intro and then I have to listen to it...
