Wonderland Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Despite the disadvantages of being a song with a dated sound and concept - as well as facing intense public backlash (due to the producer on a women's empowerment anthem being a literal sexual predator); Katy Perry's most recent lead single, "Woman's World", managed to peak at a respectable #63 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lorde's most recent single, "Solar Power", was only able to peak at #64 on the Hot 100. This was despite an intense fan-led online promotional strategy on Tiktok as well as her having the wisdom to collaborate with a producer who has not been accused of sexual assault. In your opinion, why did Katy's single beat out the Teen Hottie's? What should Lorde take away from this as she prepares her lead for Lordé4? 1 1 3 1
zoldyck Posted July 30 Posted July 30 "respectable #63 on the Billboard Hot 100" Very respectable for her standards, indeed. 4
Mother Earth Posted July 30 Posted July 30 The chakras of the universe aligned as President Biden was preparing to drop out of the Democratic race and the leader of Ijbolistan prepared to take his place, thus causing Woman's World to bump up a few places on the Billboard Hot 100. Should Lorde only hope to be so lucky for her future release.
jomarr Posted July 30 Posted July 30 #63 is respectable but #64 is "only"? You act like they are 100 spots away. 11
kimberly Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Homemade Dynamite peaked at #92 but outsold and outtalented both
Minto Posted July 30 Posted July 30 katy sold out for mid whilst environmentally conscious lorde dropped a non-conventional lead single that was essentially an indie release 3

Release a pop banger, go back to joel little and maybe she'll outpeak katy with a respectable peak of #62
blown away Posted July 30 Posted July 30 What a mid-off... Both songs were a huge disappointment. But Katy had more radio support than Lorde, simple as that. 1
Dolce Vita Posted July 30 Posted July 30 if anything it says more about lorde sticking to her artistic vision and morals than it does about katy who sold her soul for an on paper smash just for it to peak that low. 4 2
SharGaga Posted July 30 Posted July 30 These random ass comparisons. Who is checking Solar Power stats in 2024? I guess you. 1
diemoehre Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Lorde's most recent single, the remix with Charli, also peaked at #63 btw. It didn't need the big budget roll out Katy had, this came from hype alone. 4
Kayseri Mantisi Posted July 30 Posted July 30 What a stupid thread. It literally debuted at #2 on USA & #8 on Global on it's first day, which was way better than what Woman's World did - because with Lorde whole world actually wants to hear what she cooked up whenever she comes back every 4 years. As the song didn't have a commercial sound & was an alternative comeback as always from her - combined with zero promo, it quickly fell off as it should. She's not a "popstar" like Katy Perry who's intented to create hits, backed with label, radio, and many other factors. 3 1
Princess Aurora Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Because Solar Power is the better song. #musicnothebling 1
bielneira Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Did you just say that Solar Power had an "intense fan-led online promotional strategy on Tiktok"? 2

Having that high a debut and charting that low suggests people said NO even harder to Solar Power than to Woman's World, no? OT: Both the worst songs of all time so 1 1
