What?

I mean, she doesn't have to drop another album. If M21CB was her masterpiece and she put everything into it, then that's just how it goes. It was a whirlwind of an era though!

Depends on what your definition of 'Momentum' is.

I personally think, she'll bounce, bounce back. NO weapon formed against her will ever prosper. :-*

like ppl have already posted, she is clearly building up a solid fanbase and audience for longevity. I think it's a smart path, considering that tik tok moments quickly run out.

Her  biggest problem is that she is from the UK and we all know what labels do to their artists on the second era.

She could probably get a hit if she did another DJ collab like before but I don't think she's really interested in that.

Didn't she just perform on SNL a few weeks ago? I'd say she's living her best life as an independent artist and has a lot more to come. :cm:

The coi leray remix was the problem. Imagine if that was doja instead? We would be having an entirely different discussion about Raye's (mega successful smash) career while being independent :bird:

She's doing about as well as you could expect for an independent artist and she seems to be making the music that she wants

She is doing it right. How many pop girls are chasing quick hits, where are they now, Ava Max? Kim Petras? Anne-Marie? Jess Glynne? Zara Larsson?

Raye established herself as a wildcard - from being released off her contract by her label, to doing it all independently, smashing, winning any and every award (deservingly so! I must add) and then showcasing that her pop songs work as jazz and she can really do what she feels like/wants to.

Escapism was a phenomenon that doesn't happen everyday to many, it helped her create THE HIT but she's focusing on touring, playing for audiences, building fanbase and generally collecting people that will pay again to see her live and listen to her music. All this is very important for longevity not for two or three years and disappearing only performing once in a blue moon one song that was once a hit.

Genesis to me was a "gift" to fans, one final goodbye to this era, a full-stop to M21CB.

Anne Marie's last album debuted at #2 and had a top 5 hit and a top 20 hit, and she's touring now, so she's good. :sistrens:

Her career has only been growing since her album came out in early 2023, but she's still an independent artist and a lot of her music isn't even that commercial so it's a bit unrealistic to expect everything she releases is going to smash or even be a big hit, and both of her biggest hits to date (Escapism and Prada) got most of their success due to going viral. She has songs that are commercial and then songs that aren't, but that doesn't mean that she's lost her momentum or potential for success. She's also an artist who really understands the way the industry works today, that not everything is about chart positions, but cultivating a core fanbase and industry respect and she's definitely achieved both. She's also been touring a lot and it's probably wise of her not to rush her second album and release something that doesn't live up to her debut.

You're too quick you guys judging a new independent artist. She did a lot this past year to build a fan base, after the Brits she gained momentum but it's at the end of the era, now she just keeps building audience with her live performances. Mind that because of those performances she was able to have a sold out show at the O2 Arena with 19.000 people with an orchestra show. Being independent artist means that you have to collect lot of money so you can have the opportunity to push your next project. This next project isn't yet here, those featurings the op mentions is just to give something to the fans that want from her the European dance pop music etc…you can't judge her path to success with others that there's a label pushing and paying their brand and music

Coi Leray Remix

- Prada - Bop but a remix of a feature verse she did years ago

- Single with Stormzy that did nothing

- Hopped on a remix of a KPop song

- Hans Zimmer X David Attenborough collab

- 4am Remix of Escapism she'd teased over a year before she released it

- Cover of Feeling Good

- The 7 minute single that kind of flopped

- What on first glance looks to be a British Airways Ad Single but it's actually for for an upcoming film

Out of those songs, only the Coi Leray remix, feature with stormzy and Genesis can be songs she actually "put out" the rest were for other projects. The weekend deserved more, but really neither of them promoted it. Stormzy was on his vacay with Maya and Raye was still touring.

- The kpop remix was because she co-wrote it as well.

- Mother nature was done for the nature documentary

- 4am remix was just a release for her fans who kept asking for it. It got released a few days early on her discord. Bet there were zero expecations about that release.

- Feeling good cover was just because she performed it for an australian cover show, like the brits have the live lounge, they put it out on spotify after.

- Genesis was never really going to chart high, she knew that herself and says she knows the song isn't for everyone. It's just to put a closing behind the M21CB era. The vinyls sold well so I doubt she is too bothered. It didn't help that the charts counted the parts separately.

- Fly me to the moon. A cover for a movie.

What I don't seem to get is that people thought the brits would be another launching moment. I saw it more as her victory lap. It was enough momentum for her to perform for a sold out 02 arena. While being independent is an amazing accomplishment with just one complete album.

Escapism was the momentum and she did capitalize on it in my opinion. Big support slots, and her tours, festival shows, Louis theroux interview, royal albert hall that got a live album recording and recorded for the BBC, 6 brits and SNL. She is being taken serious as a musician by critics and more people now.

If she were with a label, they probably would have pushed her to have an album done by next year. But honestly she has been touring non stop and I think it's time for a well deserved break, and give her time for the next album.

I don't think anyone can really say what comes next. It's not that she killed her momentum, but more that it came to a natural end.

She's never going to be a hitmaker and I don't think that's what she wants, as evident by the 7 minute long single and all of her live shows being jazz renditions of her tracks. I think she is doing a decent job at building a following with longevity rather than chasing quick lightning in a bottle fame.

this

being loyal to her artistry will make her hit again (or not) but she will afford releasing music while having a good amount of fans

I disagree.

She's independent and she got very lucky to have a viral hit like Escapism without the major label backup. Raye and her team were never expecting this and it worked to her benefit before dropping her debut.

If she was still chasing mainstream success, she'd be churning out Polydor era bops rather than music she wants to release.

She's been touring non-stop the last few years across global headlining tours and festivals and isn't slowing down anytime soon. She sold out Sydney instantly, which she said on tour was her 2nd biggest market.

Our girl is sticking around!! There isn't any sign on when we can expect the sophomore album either, so I feel like rollout will be more strategic when we get closer to that and her latest single was a nice teaser.
