Tbh I think her name kind of became poison now. Even if it was Espresso it would never have been as huge as it is. And I don't say that with any hate, but it's just the truth. I'm afraid people left her behind and she became a nostalgia act, hence Teenage Dream still making big numbers for example.

The issue is not even the music itself but mainly her image which is disastrous. Even if she had released Espresso or any other big hit it'd have performed poorly. People simply aren't here for Katy nowadays and I don't mean it as a shade.

People always say this but truth behold, with the right song literally anybody can get a hit. Thats the power of music.

Wasn't it Diamonds? I remember Sia saying she sent it to Katy, never heard back, and then when Katy reached out after it smashed wishing Sia had sent it to her, Sia said she had.

Even if it was espresso or say so, it would've been hard to make it smash. Both sabrina and doja released those songs in a perfect timing that made the songs explode, and they had all the reasons to make it a hit.

 

It takes more than a good song to make a hit.
