KBax Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Never even knew she had a new song come out, will go and check it out, give her a stream or two
Robyn. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 (edited) She graduated from Nicki's school of sampling Because what's the limit between sampling and a cover at this point? Edited July 26 by Robyn. 4 2
shyboi Posted July 26 Posted July 26 is the scene with diamonds on the body a reference to Toxic? i'm lost
Selegend Posted July 26 Posted July 26 It's not the song. Halsey lost the GP interest. Hope she comes thru, her new single is very cute.
Princess Aurora Posted July 26 Posted July 26 (edited) Halsey went off the GP's radar a couple of years ago, unfortunately. I like the fact she covered Britney's song 'Lucky' Edited July 26 by Princess Aurora
VeniceBeach Posted July 26 Posted July 26 IICHLIWP was the perfect chance to establish her own sound and go deeper with it while retaining her loyal fan base, but instead we got these weird Y2K aesthetics and a poorly executed Britney sample 1 3
Rev8 Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Wym? as if there was a huge attention with her previous era? Anyways, it's a pretty sad song with her leukemia diagnosis and all.. it's a cute song
americanlife Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Haven't heard the full song yet but the use of a Britney sample is definitely reductive
Eternium Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Her last era absolutely bombed so this era is about re-establishing success. It'll be at least a month or two before we can gauge the success of the song. Her last album is under 700M streams and her last single is under 30M streams after years. The benchmark for success for a Halsey song is lower in 2024.

Rotunda Posted July 26 Posted July 26 (edited) I saw her promoting the track in a few tiktoks but I never paid attention to the release date. There wasn't enough anticipation for it. I also personally think there's something odd about mixing very personal/autobiographical verses with a chorus that you copy/pasted from a Britney song, but that's neither here nor there. Edited July 26 by Rotunda
A-V-XYZ Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Britney sampled songs always bomb, especially samples from flop songs like Lucky (did that song even go top 20 on the Hot 100? Lmao). She should've sampled BOMT. 1
Parallel Posted July 26 Posted July 26 The superior Lucky that also did a better job giving Britney without butchering a sample 1
Strawberry Bubble Posted July 26 Posted July 26 stop trying to make halsey happen, is not going to happen. No, I'm just kidding. I liked a lot the music video. The song is just okay.

ImpressMeMuch Posted July 26 Posted July 26 anyway, the song is reductive as is this thread posted on release day when there's a single thread!
jeffersonairplanes19 Posted July 26 Posted July 26 The song just came out and Halsey has always be adamant about not wanting to be a big popstar since the begining of her career so a song not being a hit isn't really something on her radar.
stjosephprey4us Posted July 26 Posted July 26 The song came out today, so like others said this thread is premature. However, having only listened to the song once, I will say the straight sample in the chorus is a bit jarring, I really feel as though there could have been a more creative way to reference the song and get her point across.
