What was the last time an underdog held the zeitgeist like BRAT did?

I'm thinking back in 2019 with

Spoiler

Coincidentally, Taylor also released a long album that year. :rip:

Am I mistaken? What was the last album by an underdog held the zeitgeist before BRAT 2024?

Lana underdog?

Lana is not an underdog, and 'Norman ******* Rockwell!' doesn't even come close to what 'brat' did.

If you mean someone who'd been in the industry for a while and got their big shot after years of projects it's probably Sia.

Also, if I remember correctly, Lana's zeitgeist moment was most likely BTD. That flower crown was virtually inescapable at some point, by NFR interest from the public had waned and the new found appreciation for the album is very recent.

I'd say sabrina and chappell also very much have underdog to success stories this year.

2024 is the year of the underdog

same with tinashe and nasty

Kacey did it but it was a very local success tbh. SZA may be one with her last album that was inescapable with that album cover and the hits that came from it.

Lizzo kind of did it when Truth Hurts started to smash because after that all of her previous singles made noise.

I can see Sabrina having a moment with her album considering the two singles have a residency on the top 10 WW charts

Adele's 21? She was basically an underdog and you cannot talk about 2011 without mentioning Adele.

Unless I missunderstood the zeitgeist term lol.
