Gwendolyn Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Chappell Roan has had one of the fastest, most organic rises to stardom that the music industry has seen in the past decade — but it's not all it's cracked up to be. While talking to host Drew Afualo on the Wednesday (July 17) episode of The Comment Section podcast, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter got candid about the pitfalls of notoriety. "People have started to be freaks — like, [they] follow me and know where my parents live, and where my sister works," she said of intrusive fans. "All this weird s–t." Roan also revealed she once promised herself years ago that if she ever had fans giving "stalker vibes," or if her family was ever in danger as a result of her fame, she would stop making music. "We're there. We're there!" she told Afualo. "I'm just kind of in this battle … I've pumped the brakes on, honestly, anything to make me more known. It's kind of a forest fire right now. I'm not trying to go do a bunch of s–t." https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/chappell-roan-pump-the-brakes-fame-due-stalker-fans-1235733452/ 3
Popular Post thatsmydemi Posted July 17 Popular Post Posted July 17 Gotta be honest with you, from the things she's been saying since she blew up... she seems like the type of artist who won't know how to handle fame. Wish her the best. She will need to be surrounded by good people. 22
KatyPrismSpirit Posted July 17 Posted July 17 She's literally a ordinary girl who suddenly got so successful so quickly. I understand that it might be a lot on her. She's probably freaked out 7
Velvet Night Posted July 17 Posted July 17 It's got to be overwhelming to start achieving your dreams and realise they're not all they're cracked up to be. I hope she's taking care of herself and surrounding herself with a good support system. 10
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I feel bad for her given that she's been very candid about her recent uptick in fame becoming very overwhelming for her. As much as people dream about selling out arenas and topping charts, being that famous honestly sounds like a living nightmare to me. Money, fame, fans, and praise sound great on the surface but it's a different story when you get so famous to the point where it puts your family and friends in danger and you can't have a normal life ever again. I'd much rather be "I can tour and make a decent living off music but don't have to worry about being hounded in public-level famous" vs. how big Chappell is right now. 8
Stunnah Posted July 17 Posted July 17 (edited) I wish her luck but I really don't know what she expected when she decided to sign with a major label (after being independent all those years). Unfortunately, you can't have fame on your own terms. But that's most things in life. You suck it up or give it up. Nothing you desire will be exactly what you want it to be once you get it. I don't know if she was happy being a barista, but she definitely didn't have these problems. I would avoid addressing it publicly if I were her. People will be unkind and bring up the heavy PR push and the autoplay. Edited July 17 by Stunnah 3

The fact they found out where her parents lived considering she's only blown up these past 3 months is genuinely shocking and would be alot to take in for someone like her. 8 1
ariesgroove Posted July 17 Posted July 17 fame is a very weird thing i completely get why she's speaking on it this way

That's why I think she shouldn't address it. Again, she is doing a BILLBOARD interview about how she wants to be less famous. 3
Redstreak Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I don't understand people getting themselves into an entertainment industry and not wanting the spotlight? It's giving vegan working as a meat taste tester 4

May Posted July 17 Posted July 17 love her, and completely get where she's coming from, but unfortunately this IS her life now and she has to figure out how to come to terms with it rather than trying to delay it or push it away… if she was happy w the level of fame she had 5 years ago she should've stuck with that rather than chasing all of these huge opportunities which were 100% bound to lead to mainstream success and it would be easy for someone to quote me and say 'shouldn't we be teaching fans to not be weirdos instead?' yes. we should. but rn that isn't the world we live in and ppl who chase their fame need to understand that 3
Da Vinci Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Family members and loved ones are where the lines should be drawn, I get her. THEY didn't sign up for it unlike her, the artist. 4 1
Minto Posted July 17 Posted July 17 makes sense any other artist in her position who exploded like that would've done a sabrina carpenter and had a sophomore scheduled and a follow up single out by now but she hasn't dropped anything since good luck babe 2
Bubble Tea Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Stan culture has really turned something as fun and uplifting as pop music into something as awful as sports culture. Racism, cheating, scandals, fights, violence etc. It's no wonder Chappell is struggling having achieved such fame and being hauled into that world. We love to punish people who seek fame and say "you asked for this! You knew! You deserved it!" but I don't really think anyone who is not famous can truly know what it means to have complete strangers absolutely rifle through every grain of our available existence to contact our family, friends, people we went to school with, former teachers etc. There's a level of greed to it all - we demand access, we demand intricate insight. It's no wonder Britney is such a damn mess now. Her relationships, right down to the intimate core of those with her children and her family are dissected and posted about. She's had upskirt photos taken of her pu**y blasted into magazines, photos of her being hauled into hospital, her weddings and divorced publicised. She doesn't own an ounce of her own life and is clearly mentally broken by it. Can we please not do that to Chappell? Even when she does something offensive or dares to question your fave? Even when she flops? Can't her opinion just be that, her opinion, without hate? Just let these pop stars be. They're trying to provide something to the world. 12 2
Sugar-Rush Posted July 17 Posted July 17 It's a bit late for that considering that she's on a promo tour right now.

I too would be doing interviews trying to get those Adventure Time/Steven Universe stanning hooligans to touch grass. 8
WildAmerican Posted July 17 Posted July 17 this is interesting bc she is HUSTLING harder than almost anyone right now, literally performing at almost every festival
Uncatena Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if she dropped a sophomore in like... 3-4 years and then disappears forever. 1
Kylizzle Posted July 17 Posted July 17 So tired of new celebs doing as much promo as humanly possible and signing with big labels and then publicly advertising to every magazine and website who will listen how ~tired~ they are of fame 3
