EnigmaticAndroid Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) If that's the case (which lol k Katheryn), then what is she satirizing exactly? Is she saying that we live in a men's world (ironic or unironic)? With the video, is she lampooning women who take part in traditionally "male" things rather than supporting gender equality and breaking down gender roles? Is making the song with an infamous rapist and trying to exploit the male gaze some kind of f*cked up commentary and the entire thing is some massive troll attempt? None of those work and if the song and video are intended as satire, it makes this all an even bigger failure. But obviously this is some spin that they're gonna try and sell as damage control since she, her team, and Capital know that this is a runway train disaster. Edited July 13 by EnigmaticAndroid 10

BrokenMachine Posted July 13 Posted July 13 22 minutes ago, SleepNoMore said: So she's saying the first part is supposed to be about women saying they're empowered using classic feminist imagery but making it a joke by sexing it up, so that the message is "we're not about the male gaze", but actually it is? So then what is the message we're supposed to take away from that? Feminism is actually still about pleasing men? I still don't get it, even if it's sarcastic. Her sarcasm could mean anything 4
Gaia Posted July 13 Posted July 13 1 hour ago, IBeMe said: Do you guys remember when the Katy Kats Klan were saying that she was coming for a vengeance and would destroy every one of the Katy Kats fan base enemies Do you guys remember when they heard that she was working with Dr. Luke they started celebrating and chanting that their mother was "coming for blood" This is a DISASTER on soooooo many levels Sorry but mixing up Stan base drama with a horridly racist organization for a drag is beyond pathetic. Joking about KKK shouldn't be the first thing on your mind while making some mundane drag This is what perplexes me about all the moral crap I see, yall say the most absurd **** and try to act like you're some moral police at the same time 5 6
Blade Runner Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) Is she gonna buy likes for that tweet as well? Or did her team finally give up? Edited July 13 by Blade Runner 1 2
The7thStranger Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Working with your former friend's rapist on a pick-me anthem is ... satire? I mean, to be fair, it does sound like a plotline from a Grand Theft Auto game. 12
shoganai Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) A female empowerment anthem written by an alleged r*pist. They can spin their narrative all around but the most important fact, which caused all the uproar, won't change Edited July 13 by shoganai 8

Phaunzie Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I don't see damage control. Seeing as how she was on the set of the video saying, this is just a behind the scenes video. The first part was clearly parody of third wave feminism, with the amount of product placement, stars & stripes bikini (referencing the propaganda behind Rosie) and obsessive panning to her breasts. 2
fireaero Posted July 13 Posted July 13 There is some valid criticism about this release but I think it's true that Katy always planned the video like this. This is also why the start of the video promotes a ton of random products and the transition uses random stock images of faux-feminism while Katy is in her coma. 1

BraveNewSeth Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I just can't believe Katy learned absolutely nothing from CTTR. People don't want purposeful pop from Katy Perry. They don't want her dabbling into politics at all, even if it is some basic "women! **** yeah!" message. When people listen to Katy Perry they want to turn their brains off and just vibe. I don't understand why she thinks her music and videos need to have a message all of a sudden. She isn't like Gaga who actually has the depth to pull something like that off. 2 1

She seems unwilling to accept this.
