naval23 Posted July 12 Posted July 12 It peaked at #41 on Billboard's R&B chart and is her only solo song to chart Why? Shook?
Virgos Groove Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) Some people are gonna laugh at the low position, but before 2012 - when they changed the chart rules to measure R&B songs instead of an R&B audience -, white performers rarely made it on the chart, which basically tracked the Black community like the Hot 100 tracks all of America. To even chart was a sign that you had crossed over to Black audiences, one of the few achievements that isn't "given" to white artists. Elton, who already had multiple pop hits, went ecstatic when he made it to #15 with Bennie and the Jets, for example. Madonna also had a few charting songs in her prime. Now, white artists chart there all the time (because Billboard ruined the chart, making it into a mini-Hot 100), but it used to be an achievement. Edited July 12 by Virgos Groove 1
BrattyBottom Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Black audiences love Celine! I see time and time again praise from black content creators.
Vrx. Posted July 12 Posted July 12 It was a crossover hit to non-white audiences which, as previously stated in this thread, was once a massive achievement. She's extremely talented as a vocalist and audiences appreciate it, regardless of race 1
