Illuminati Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Having multiple diamond singles and no grammy is definitely more impressive because I can only name one person that manages to dodge acclaim like this
Pheromosa Posted July 11 Posted July 11 It's a unique situation because I think it only applies to Katy perry

Theluckyone Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Katy's career is much more impressive than many of those who had won Grammies but with no classic songs. I would of course say having both are amazing, and the Grammys is still something that any musician aspires for and hopes to have; but diamond singles are probably more impressive in the long run. 1
Sannie Posted July 11 Posted July 11 The downplaying of Grammys by stans whose faves don't have one. All of our faves dream of winning a Grammy; every mainstream musician does. While the Grammys don't hold the same prestige they once did, having the moniker of "Grammy winner" is still very much a big deal in the industry. But I digress bc my fave has both. 3 1

CottageHore Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Musical legends like Mariah and MJ have been repeatedly snubbed by the Shammys, that's your answer right there massive legions of people listening to and buying your music is objectively more indicative of impact than a panel of geriatric white men deciding you deserve a trophy through an arbitrary process Edited July 11 by CottageHore 1
UnusualBoy Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Diamonds singles/albums because it means people actually invest in your music buying it, streaming, etc. The grammy is a cute accolade but that doesn't pay the bills.
bliaz Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Diamond singles and no Grammy. For me there is nothing better than the recognition of the people. People appreciating/loving your work. The Grammys by comparison are chosen by a committee of old white men who have no idea about music. Edited July 11 by bliaz
Feanor Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Both >>> recognition by the public >>> recognition by the industry
Letemtalk Posted July 12 Posted July 12 My fave has had both since 2017 (and the Grammy since 2014). But if you went on the street and asked random members of the GP how many sales units a Diamond single was, they wouldn't know. If you asked them if it was better than Platinum and if so, how much better, is it 2x, 4x, or 10x as many sales, they wouldn't know. If you asked them to name which singers had Diamond singles, they wouldn't know. There is a reason that when musicians go on tour, the tour promotion says "Grammy winning artist" or "Grammy nominated artist", because people know what a Grammy is, and many are aware of when the Grammy awards ceremony is held, even if they don't personally watch it. For most people it's the Grammy that is more impressive, especially if it's one of the big three.
banterfly Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Between the two, then definitely a diamond single. It looks like there have only been 138 songs that have gone diamond. Aren't there like 90+ Grammy awards handed out each year?
Soda Pop Queen Posted July 12 Posted July 12 there's quite a bit of of misinformation about both accomplishments being put out in here and that's all I'm gonna say about that lol imo, neither is more impressive than the other. It all depends on what the artist prioritizes or wants from their career. Most popular artists like both.
