Moonlight Nation Posted July 10 Posted July 10 1. "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT": It's conceptual, visually striking, and ambitious in execution. Billie described the photoshoot as one of the most painful experiences in her life, since it involved her getting completely submerged several times. The shades of blue are beautiful and it's overall an image that matches with the content of the album both sonically and thematically. 2. "Brat": When the cover was first revealed, I instantly loved it. It felt super on-brand for Charli XCX, particularly the subversive (and frankly chaotic) aspect of featuring such a garish and loud colour paired with a low resolution font. Provocative in the best way, and I feel so vindicated that the immense love for the album led to the cover becoming iconic as well. 3. "Radical Optimism": Much like the album itself, it's a rather underrated cover. Yes, there was an understandable element of disappointment that she suddenly switched aesthetics mid-rollout, but this image effectively captures the meaning of the title, which according to Dua is meant to convey 'the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm'. In my opinion, it's a cover with a very cool aura about it, which matches well with the album's sound and lyrics. 4. "COWBOY CARTER": Visually striking and thematically powerful image offering a great parallel to the "RENAISSANCE" cover. I actually much prefer this one over the image chosen for Act 1. Now do keep in mind my 2-4 are very closely ranked. I really love this artwork, but while I understand its symbolic significance, I feel Beyoncé carrying the American flag was a bit superfluous to this cover given her outfit is already honouring the colours of the flag. . 5. "Short n' Sweet": Very simple beauty shot cover, but it's effective for its purpose. Flirty, summery, and featuring a pretty colour palette. 6. "eternal sunshine": The early visuals for this era were very hit-and-miss, and to be fair, at first this was my favourite cover out of the seven alternatives provided, so I was happy when it became the official one. I liked the focus on Ariana's instantly recognizable ponytail and the symbolism of self-care. However, once the album came out, turns out it didn't really match with the storyline and themes tackled - in my opinion, at least. -> Now, I would have preferred if this cover had become the definitive one, but even then I think it would still land at #6 in this ranking. . 7. "143": The background has a nice colour palette, but Katy looks weirdly edited here and neither her outfit nor her post look particularly flattering. It reminds me of Christina Aguilera's infamous "Lotus" cover to some extent. It's a shame, because the concept had potential, but the execution left to be desired in my opinion. The alternate cover doesn't work for me either, feeling kinda uncanny in an AI-generated way. -> Ironically, I'm not sure whether this picture is AI (please forgive the low resolution), but I would have loved seeing something in this vein as the cover instead. 8. "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY": Simply mediocre, dull, and uninspired. Comfortably Taylor's most forgettable and bland album cover. That being said, it's still miles better than the terrible cover for the standard edition of the album. Unflattering pose, awkward middle ground between sensual and melancholic, and that's not getting into Taylor's face looking superimposed and uncanny. -> While I find the entire photoshoot to be similarly uninspired as the Anthology cover, this picture had potential for a much more effective cover. 1

wish Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Billie, Bey, and Charli are the only ones I actually like. And yes, I dragged the Brat cover on day 1 but I've switched like a f*g since then
Mickie Posted July 10 Posted July 10 HMAS, RO, 143 and CC are at least creative in a way, compared to ES, Sabrina and TTPD covers. And brat is iconic already. Dua would eat if this was the cover instead: Spoiler
