Is Katy Perry trying too hard to pander?

I'm glad Katy's going hard this era. To me, it was obvious that Smile was released at the behest of her label. She did minimal promo and I don't blame her because she was focused on being a mother.

Saying this but then 90% of twitter cats are making fun of Kesha's body-

Maybe stop making false claims? Because this isnt even true. Matter of fact most Cats on here like Kesha.

You could've made your point with the ageism and misogyny

She's obviously not my favorite artist right now, but the idea that a woman can't be sexy after 30 is absolutely disgusting

She looks better than ever and while I don't agree her working with dr luke, with another song this would be fire.

Shame on her stupidity for that

I wouldn't say she's pandering, but this era does already feel very tryhard — which, granted, even at her peak was always her brand.

I'm just not sure whether she's deliberately courting all this controversy or whether it's just accidental. After Smile basically came and went I could see her trying to generate publicity via deliberate lashings. This is basically her hail-Mary era, after all

So that's why they make fun of joyride streams

So just because there's BOOBS you're calling this "overly sexual"??? Please grow up…

The era is shaping up to be overly sexual, not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, do you think the Kim Petras collab produced by that man is going to be a lullaby for Daisy?

Stop generalizing every Katycat lol. You probably nitpick at what obvious trolls have to say about Kesha and just run with it. End this tired smear campaign already. Is it not getting tiring?

Trying too hard in the most outdated way.

this whole white woman femisnism schtick would've been more fitting in like 2016-2017, especially when she still had her short hair.

she might as well pull a cringe move like Beyoncé and perform with "FEMINIST" written in big letters in the background.

ATRL thirsting for pages over Theo James (who is the exact same age as Katy) being 90% naked. Yes a woman not in her 20s showing boobs and body is called "tryhard"?????

Katy is trying too hard with her new era. The promo is overly sexual (reminiscent of Teenage Dream) but Katy is not in her 20s anymore. She's trying hard to promote this feminist narrative but we know she isn't because the song is produced by dr Luke (alleged rapist). She's also been copying few artists without crediting them (arca, charli xcx, gaga) just so she can gain a newer audience. And on top of that she is re using the same empowerment theme she always did (firework, roar, daisies). Is Katy Perry trying too hard ?

Okayy???? Copying Arca, Charli and Gaga, now girl what?????

Arca utilising cyberpunk aesthetics that have existed ever since the boardgame and original book Neuromancer. The indie sleaze aesthetic that Charli has been engaging is not new. Hell, Katy engaged in it back in 2004 with the Matrix and her original debut album. Gaga, what did she copy?

I guess you would have hated Madonna when she released Erotica in her 30s. To say that Katy, queen of camp is trying too hard because she is doing camp and sexy. Also, empowerment anthems are a Katy signature. She has done at least two songs on that topic for every album since her debut.

She is literally returning to her roots. :rip:

This thread is giving 2008-2010 media. Kinda shocked to be reading this in 2024. :rip:

A woman embracing her body is not "trying too hard". That talking point is rooted in misogyny (not to mention your blatant ageism). Additionally, these copying claims are ludicrous, Gags didn't invent lying down and Charli didn't invent black pleather. :biblio:

Pls be serious, she (or her creative team) was clearly very inspired by Chromatica both visually and sonically.

Single 1 is a Stupid Love knock-off. Single 2 (the Kim Petri dish one, right?) is a female "club banger" collab - à la Rain On Me.

Hey I understand yall are spiraling right now, but blindly calling every criticism "misogynistic" isn't convincing anyone that it actually is sweetheart. It's 2016 level trolling, step your game up and try new methods of trolling. Also there is a special irony in spouting this talking point when she works with Dr. Luke (who many woman, not just Kesha, have spoken out about as being a misogynistic pig)

Anyways, yea. Katy is clearly pandering. She will get some attention from her Tim Burton looking meth twinks and moms who haven't kept up with music lately, but I don't think she will find much success with the GP overall.

Also, don't forget to tap the "this made me upset" button ~v~Below~v~

Number 890273 of a thread like this. All these weak attempts are just laughing stock at this point just like you.

They always come up with some reason why this era sucks or katy is an attention seeking or whatever reason. Just anything to possibly hate. And ind the end it always spirals back to Kesha and Luke. Yawnnn.

Quoting you " it's 2016 level trolling". It seems like you're the one stuck in 2016 honey. Step up your game and grow up.

Talking bout meth twinks when you're just a 💩twink in disguise.

Also don't forget to tap the "I'm triggered whenever I hear and see the word Katy" button.

People are calling it "misogynistic" to criticise the overly sexual approach - the only reason it's so pathetic to watch is bc she's doing it as a last resort to fall back into the male gaze. Between this and Dr. Luke, it's like she's selling her soul, morals and body for a shot at success. Is it really gonna be worth it? I mean, it's her body, they're her choices, she can do whatever the f**k she wants. But still. Trying to win over the str8 MAGA uncles bc your music isn't selling and nobody is attending your Vegas residency just feels like a new low.

Katy Perry is over. Her stans have to be doing it in irony, I simply cannot believe anyone would find anything particularly noteworthy about her. A colossal flop.
