ugo Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Katy is trying too hard with her new era. The promo is overly sexual (reminiscent of Teenage Dream) but Katy is not in her 20s anymore. She's trying hard to promote this feminist narrative but we know she isn't because the song is produced by dr Luke (alleged rapist). She's also been copying few artists without crediting them (arca, charli xcx, gaga) just so she can gain a newer audience. And on top of that she is re using the same empowerment theme she always did (firework, roar, daisies). Is Katy Perry trying too hard ? 2 1 1 30
ChooseyLover Posted July 10 Posted July 10 The question is... who is she trying to pander to? What is the target audience that is supposed to like this? Does she know? 4 1
Popular Post ThomasTea Posted July 10 Popular Post Posted July 10 A woman embracing her body is not "trying too hard". That talking point is rooted in misogyny (not to mention your blatant ageism). Additionally, these copying claims are ludicrous, Gags didn't invent lying down and Charli didn't invent black pleather. 29 3 1 1

Hey I understand yall are spiraling right now, but blindly calling every criticism "misogynistic" isn't convincing anyone that it actually is sweetheart. It's 2016 level trolling, step your game up and try new methods of trolling. Also there is a special irony in spouting this talking point when she works with Dr. Luke (who many woman, not just Kesha, have spoken out about as being a misogynistic pig) Anyways, yea. Katy is clearly pandering. She will get some attention from her Tim Burton looking meth twinks and moms who haven't kept up with music lately, but I don't think she will find much success with the GP overall. Also, don't forget to tap the "this made me upset" button ~v~Below~v~ Edited July 10 by jordanjm 6 4 7

futuresuperstar2023 Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Didn't y'all clown her when she cut her hair short lmao? Now her being hot again is a problem. Nothing wrong with admitting you are disappointed by her working with Dr Luke. Katy Perry was the sexy big boobed goofy girl from 2008-2014. There isn't any pandering. 8 1

Insinuating a woman is trying too hard to pander by embracing her body IS misogynistic, and saying she is too old to do so IS ageism, but I understand while some of us understood these concepts in 2016, others (you) have yet to catch up. 4 3 1

Sure sweetie whatever you need to tell yourself to cope. I got my second wave feminism education covered. Let me know when your fave does ❤️ 1

No, I'm glad she's trying hard. It's her job. The only thing I dislike is the Puke collab. Other than that, she's looking gorgeous, healthy, happy and confident. 18 3 2
getBusy Posted July 10 Posted July 10 So just because there's BOOBS you're calling this "overly sexual"??? Please grow up… 3

It's so sad to see it on this forum of all places. First with Jlo earlier this year, now with katy perry. Finally someone wants to give proper eras and rollouts again and put in the effort and they get called desperate, pandering and what not. Yet they stay praising the lamest chicks because they whispered or used autotune on their tracks and that's *edgy*. What a bunch of pathetic homosexuals my god 5 2
State of Grace. Posted July 10 Posted July 10 It might be her last chance at breaking out of the nostalgia act box and having a proper comeback/one last hit era, that's why it feels like they're pulling all the stops. They think they are re-introducing her to the public/young audiences that were toddlers when she last had a smash hit, but everything still has ~^_millennial_^~ cringe written all over it. So I guess the few kitty cats left and shameless gays in their late 20s/30s will show up. 1
FOCK Posted July 10 Posted July 10 She's just cheekily referencing what she's most well known for, a bizarre mix of cringe, camp & sex. It's a cute call back. Most artists do it at some point in their career - especially if they've had a lengthy one. It's the "in" thing rn to capitalise on nostalgia, especially as a "re-introduction" of sorts after an extended break. See: Pink Friday, Slim Shady, Eras Tour, whatever Lana is doing with Quavo etc 6
