visions Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) Janet and Britney in terms of having their careers negatively affected. The vitriol that Madonna had/has to put up with is insane and some of it is ageism but it's the kind of ageism that definitely wouldn't have happened to a man. It just never seemed to truly impact her career because she was just that successful. Edited July 9 by visions 9 1
Popular Post The7thStranger Posted July 9 Popular Post Posted July 9 (edited) In no order: Duffy - Ridiculed over a commercial and later held captive and assaulted Janet Jackson - Superbowl blackballing Tina Turner - Abused for years by Ike Turner and left penniless Britney Spears - Sexualized as a minor and then vilified as an adult Madonna - Sex book backlash and constant ageism Cass Elliot - Terrible discourse about her over her weight, particularly after her death Billie Holiday - Had her earnings stolen and then died at a young age of addition Yoko Ono - Compared to Eve for "breaking up the Beatles" Courtney Love - Conspiracy theories claiming she killed Kurt Kesha - The Dr. Luke incidents and the pigeonholing as a tragic party girl Judee Sill - Her entire life in- and outside of the music industry All of the Spice Girls once they went solo - The British press ridiculing them incessently for no reason Lil' Kim - Replaced within the industry Cassie - Abused for years by Sean Combs Aubrey O'Day - Self-esteem utterly destroyed by Sean Combs and those around her Alanis Morissette - Groomed as a young teenager during her first two eras The list is endless. There is no ultimate survivor. With the exception of those whom we have unfortunately lost, they are all survivors. Edited July 9 by The7thStranger 15 10
itshyolee Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Definitely Janet, except I think her case was mixed with a bit of racism as well. Even Justin's dumbass clocked it. I'd also include any female legends/icons because of the ageism they face. Their male counterparts never have to deal with that BS. 1
suburbannature Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Britney Janet - 2004 Mariah - 2001 Those three were attacked viciously on a mainstream media level. Mariah very easily could have ended up in a conservatorship (said so herself) during that time.

Tylerbv Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Britney, Janet, and Madonna. Kesha and basically any female country singer also fit the question. 2
brutal Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Taylor Swift. She is the only major established pop girl this century whose core base is women and her music and artistry has been constantly dismissed because of it. 3 1 1 3
Totami Legend Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) Janet and Ava People saying Britney but I don't get it, she was tortured by the media and the family for money reasons, that's not misogyny but a whole systematic abuse and slavery coming from the court system!! Edited July 9 by Totami Legend
