Avril Lavigne draws bigger crowd than headliner SZA at Glastonbury 2024. Why?

Despite not being as commercially successful as SZA for the past decade, Avril since managed to draw a bigger crowd than SZA at the Glastonbury festival.

Because she's AVRIL LAVIGNE?

She smashed and set the standard for an entire decade.

This is not a read/mostly me talking out of my ass
What is SZA's key demo + if they are on the younger side, maybe not as much disposable income?

SZA is great but still unknown outside the US, she also has 2 albums, not as many hits as Avril. She has many records with many hits and a very loyal fanbase.

It's Avril Lavigne. She's literally an icon.

SZA (even though she's been popular for years prior and CTRL is one of the most popular albums within the last decade) just started getting her foot into the door with SOS.

She's basically just getting started.

obviously because avril is much more relevant in 2024, she will certainly outsell sza!

I feel like Avril's at the stage of her career where even if people aren't a huge fan of hers, everyone knows and likes at least 1-2 of her songs and would enjoy her set.

lol based on the comments here you'd think Avril is always selling out stadiums but she can't even fill a smaller sized indoor venue on her regular tours. When you paid for a festival ticket, though, she's a fun, nostalgic act to take in on the way. People get more curious in that setting because it's low commitment. She should just do festivals from now on.

Glastonbury is not the crowd for SZA. They like their big basic artists on the main stage with a sliver of alternative on the side. It was just dumb to have her up as a headliner.

The U.K. is geographically more aligned to contemporary music genres that are not Rn'B. Unlike the U.S. - Rn'B music does not have centuries old cultural roots there.

The origins of Glastonbury are inflected by Woodstock which was primarily a Rock festival.

Add to this, the adult audience in attendance at Glastonbury have nostalgia for Avril as her music not only evokes nostalgia for their youth but also because Avril (to some degree) has always aligned herself with the Rock genre throughout her career which makes live arrangements of her music a good fit for a festival rooted in the Rock genre and Rock culture.

sza's UK tour dates eclipse avril's by a large margin so it's certainly not about demand like people are making it out  :deadbanana2:

glastonbury is a festival mainly for white millennials who are into rock/nostalgia acts whilst sza's is a current american r&b artist who's demographic is much younger

avril is much more talented than sza. people don't like singers who can't sing which is apparent on sza set. girl can't sing to save her life. she's a good songwriter tho b:giraffe:

No need to pit two queens against each other. Stream rock hit F2F and RnB hit Tell Me It's Over for both :clap3:

This is so not true. She's selling out arenas for her current tours :eli:
