How do you know that an MPG is in their legacy phase?

GP ships them back? The constant flops?

Do you consider Katy, Rihanna, and Gaga as legacy acts now?

Since Beyonce is still releasing new music and just reached #1, then she's an active MPG and not legacy?

What are the signs?

They stop releasing as frequently and move onto other ventures. And Only show up to things when they're being honored or winning a big award in some way (Gaga VMA 2020, Beyonce at… anyshow etc) dhdhdjjddj yes all the 2010's girls are legacy acts except Taylor, Ariana and maybe Adele. They still feel like they're in this generation of artists to me

Decline in demand for new material but still a very faithful following for the artist or their previous catalogue.

I think time pretty much tells it all + when they're in a comfortable position to move onto other things.

Honestly when they do a residency. Its basically like the old folks home for a singer.

When they start doing alt versions/ jazz arrangements of their biggest hits because they've performed them so many times.

The lucky girls have a legacy to leave behind to begin with, let's start there. But I think if you're still keeping up with the youngins and releasing relevant successful material, then you haven't entered your legacy phase.

The following things serve legacy phase to me:

. touring your hits and little to no space for new material

. having award shows thrown in your honor

. having the new girlies mention you in their interviews

. flopping on the Hot 100, but doing well on streaming / sales

. radio won't touch your music

Taylor is an exceptional case here because she's both doing a greatest hits tour and slaying the charts / radio / sales / strihming. :celestial5:

Top 5 album debut, but the most successful single from the era is barely scratching the Top 40 on the Hot 100. That's the sign of a goodbye era and fading out of public consciousness.

they have been in the game for a long period of time, and people admire and respect their names

They start flopping and they've been around for 15-20 years

The general public is still somehow interested in Beyoncé. People check for her new releases pretty much every time. There's still a high interest in her albums and singles.

Rihanna is pretty much retired.

Katy and Gaga are both legacy artists. They haven't been really popular in a long time and haven't been able to get solo hits for almost a decade.

When they rely mostly on nostalgia to grab the public's attention.

Beyonce just had a #1 smash single and a #1 album that went platinum in weeks. Of course she's relevant.

I feel Gaga is in the legacy phase but she put herself there. There was a lof of interest in Chromatica post ASIB and she got a top 5 and a #1 and a great opening week but she abandoned the album and took forever to release a followup. I think people have moved on.

Rihanna is retired.

She had her previous solo number-one almost 15 years ago: "Bad Romance" (2009 in UK), "Born This Way" (2011 in US).

When they start celebrating album anniversaries, doing re-issues, touring without a new album out, performing mostly old songs on tours for new albums, sporadic media appearance, and when people don't know their new songs at all.

The GP doesn't know the new singles at the tour

When their tours/residencies & other businesses become a bigger deal to the public than their new albums.

Even if we combine sales of Everything is Love The Gift Renaissance Cowboy Carter Smile Witness it's less than ASiB + Chromatica
