France needs to fill a political gap between RN and Ensemble-coalition, a real right party, something less populist then RN but more conservative then Ensemble. Even with 200 left seats, there is still 377 seats non-left, which are mostly on the centre/centre-right/far-right side, so to say that France took a left turn, not sure about it, mostly France showed that what they want is a balance between far-right and centre

That's a ridiculous read...they have that with the classic right that didn't join the RN for these elections and they still flopped badly...

Also, the left wasn't the one favoured here by centrists...it was the centrists, cause the left was significantly more generous and all their third candidates left the race...what I'm sure is that Melenchon with the support of all these parties could win against Le Pen in a presidential election.

P.S.: Most people in western Europe are either centre-left or centre-right and while trends change, but this is definitely not a turn to the right...

This is historical, because not only Le Pen is likely gonna be third place, but the left is #1...It's scary but I think if Macron renounced being the president, Melenchon could be the next president of France.

This is the biggest defeat to the far right in a long time

No, Mélenchon doesn't stand a chance.

Also, far-right is still gaining space so I wouldn't call it a big defeat either.

Mélenchon might be the less popular political candidate in the country at the moment (right after Macron of course)

I feel like this always happens where France's far right does well at first but then ends up flopping. :deadbanana:

We would have to see...there's clearly more people scared about the far right than about Melenchon.

It kinda happens in most countries in western Europe...it's still worrying but they end up losing seats...and also far right governments in Europe have lasted only one term except for Poland (Orban is more of a catch-all authoritarian man)

Unfortunately, Biden is in  no way shape or form as capable as Melenchon or even Macron who I despise.

If these kinds of results on pure #s were replicated in the US for a US system, it'd look like:

  • A Trump presidency
  • A Republican controlled Senate
  • A Democrat controlled House

?

Even with the NFP winning most seats, no way Mélenchon will be the next Prime minister, he's hated outside LFI and amongst a vast majority of French people.

If RN was something new, less populist, not associated with the Le Pens (father and daughter), it would do so much better. French people are not leftist at all, they are centre-right people, on social and economical scale

He is way too polarizing, this is way too risky and according to polls, he was losing against MLP 2 years ago.

RN only lost because of the withdrawals of most third candidates, otherwise it would be the leading party, maybe not the absolute majority but for sure the one with most seats

no way Macron will renounce, at least not for Melenchon
Melenchon can't control the left and center together

Oh they big mad. :deadbanana4: If the far-right is already calling centrists coup-committing socialists, sounds like the center should just accept socialists as the group they should always work with instead of trying to smother.

I mean, are we surprised? It's hard to see France switching to the Far-right tbh
