Funnyfatty Posted July 30 Posted July 30 I don't believe in the term "radio friendly" tbh. the radios played songs like RTw girls and Bad Romance. Die young also had lots of plays. The radios play anything that they have to play so the only thing that is needed is money 5
Scandalous Posted July 30 Posted July 30 if 360 can crack the top 60 surely this can at least hit the hot 100 i still call this a big success for her, it's definitely the most attention a single of hers has gotten since Rainbow but it would definitely be nice to see it chart and give her flowers 10
Badgalbriel Posted July 30 Posted July 30 But don't you guys realize how weird this song is for radio? 6
CroNich Posted July 30 Posted July 30 5 minutes ago, Badgalbriel said: But don't you guys realize how weird this song is for radio? I think their point is, at least every now and again the gp eats up a more whacky sounding bop, which in turn gets heavy radio support, so it's certainly possible. I honestly feel like this is on the peripheries of becoming a huge hit if she plays her cards right, or they get lucky. If we can't rely on radio she needs to be turning out live performances. Festivals, award shows, snl, late night talk shows, vevo, YouTube etc. that's the stuff that can really go viral these days. 4

I need some of yall to be real. 6 1

Even a song like Charli's 360, which has been everywhere in the zeitgeist since it's release, is only just now cracking the Top 40 and it was released nearly 3 months ago. Radio play for this kind of song, for this kind of artist, is an uphill battle and this is a super risky song to do it for. It might not make sense or get very much airplay for it to be worth it. 3

Yeah, exactly. Joyride is great, but let's not kid ourselves that it's a radio-friendly song . The amount of swear words alone (which technically aren't replaced in the radio edit) and certain production choices tell a different story. On top of that comes the fact that there is no official radio release due to her being independent. 12 minutes ago, CroNich said: If we can't rely on radio she needs to be turning out live performances. I can't imagine that there will be a big promo wave for this suddenly after almost nothing this whole month. This isn't even criticism of her management or anything (which does a great job so far), but rather most likely the result of nobody anticipating the success the song would have. I imagine this sort of stuff was probably planned for the album release. Edited July 30 by TomTom 3
collin Posted July 30 Posted July 30 That fact that she even managed to chart on Bubbling Under and keep a firm hold is pretty amazing. I'd love for her to hit the Hot 100 too. Even my picky friends rallied behind this song so people are ready for more! 6
Scandalous Posted July 30 Posted July 30 do we know how close the album is to being done? I feel like at this point she should capitalize on the renewed hype from Joyride and move on to 2nd single around Sept with the album in Oct 2

US radio is a lot......blander than it was 15/20 years ago. But there are exceptions and JOYRIDE sounds incredible blasting loud in the car. 3
keshasfillers Posted July 30 Posted July 30 It's in Rolling Stone's Songs of the Summer list Quote Kesha, 'Joyride' Bring back the dollar sign … KE$HA is back. What better way for Kesha to celebrate her musical independence (and litigious freedom) than reconnecting with the subversive, cheesy-naughty energy that made her a radio staple in the early 2010s? Without falling into antiquated sounds and lyrical tropes, Kesha found an impressive way to channel "TiK ToK" and "We R Who We R" during the summer of Charli XCX's Brat. Summer 2024 is about unrestrained fun and poor decisions, and with "Joyride," Kesha delivers the perfect soundtrack thanks to lyrics like "Rev my engine till you make it purr" and "You want kids? Well, I am Mother." After a heavy album like last year's Gag Order, "Joyride" feels fresh and exciting, and welcomes back the messy, sexy, dirty Kesha that we, the pop stans, truly missed. We're glad you're back, KE$HA. —T.M. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/songs-of-the-summer-2024-1235066644/lana-del-rey-and-quavo-tough-1235068692/ 5
