hallucinate Posted June 23 Posted June 23 i remember trying both when apple music first introduced them but stopped using shortly because i felt like the music wasn't loud enough with dolby atmos and lossless takes more cellular data so that was a no as well
Lana Banana Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Dolby Atmos is supposed to be used with a sound system/home theater with 5 speaker system (a subwoofer in the center and four other speakers in the corners of the room) The name already has it in. Atmos for Atmosphere. Even though, I enjoy listening to Dolby Atmos in stereo cuz you can hear some harmonies, vocals and other hidden stuff you've never heard before. Lossless for stereo (left and right only). Edited June 23 by Lana Banana 2

Kayseri Mantisi Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Dolby Atmos is a gimmick by Apple as always. Atmos is not how artists intend to make their albums, like it's not what the original album sounds like and it's not what they're listening at the studio. It's an afterthought and they get made by additional mixers after the album is completed. It's always a hit or miss and sometimes it fucks things up, sometimes it makes things better..... So no, you shouldn't use it. Edited June 23 by Kayseri Mantisi 7 1 4
BlackAura Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Literally depends on how the Atmos mix is, some are good, some are ****. 1

Almodusa Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Lossless. Atmos sounds horrible most of the time but sometimes I'll listen to it to see what stuff they mixed in on an album I already listened to 1
Lana Banana Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) 13 minutes ago, BlackAura said: Then why doesn't Dolby atmos work in cars, where they have multiple speakers front, the sides and the back ? Because a car setup probably doesn't support Dolby Atmos just like you have TVs that do or don't support video game/console (Dolby vision etc) settings, I would assume. Edited June 23 by Lana Banana
selena_lavigne Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Whenever i'm feeling risky and fun i use Dolby Atmos but only on special occasions. It really isn't all that. Sk8er Boi sounds terrible in Dolby Atmos for example. Edited June 23 by selena_lavigne 2
sneakyishere Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Dolby Atmos is usually trash. And even in the cases where it does sound good - that still isn't what the artist wanted their music to sound like, so DA is a huge no. But lossless is a must on the other hand, shouldn't even be a question 2 2
Slamless Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Bluetooth connections don't support lossless audio so there's no reason for me to have it on unless I'm on my good sound system at home, idk why people bother even on their nice headphones cuz if they're wireless whats the point 1

If U Seek Amy Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Lossless no unless I am using the right equipment. Dolby Atmos is usually too quiet for me even with Sound Check on and everything. Some mixes on Atmos are bad and the poor consistency makes it not useable even on Dolby speakers. Atmos lovers try to tell me it is quieter to make songs sound more dynamic but honestly it just sounds flat/too quiet to me so oh well. I love just Spatial Audio on and that is it.
Cesar Posted June 23 Posted June 23 loseless on my macbook pro 14inch since they come with hi-fi speakers HQ on my iphone cause i don't have any loseless headphones. dolby atmos sounds terrible most of the time so i turned that feature off
ariesgroove Posted June 23 Posted June 23 it usually depends on the atmos mix for me, but generally i alternate between lossless and atmos. atmos does allow for a more immersive listening experience but lossless is just as good for everyday listening imo 1
stars Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) I got into the audiophile game 2 years ago, and when I say having the right equipment makes a difference… it makes a HUGE difference. I was hearing things I had never heard before in some of my favorite songs. The hobby does get expensive, so proceed with caution lol. Lossless >>> Dolby Atmos Edited June 23 by stars 1
Bussea Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I use both. I typically listen on lossless but I turn dolby on whenever I want to hear the album differently. I hate how low dolby is and sometimes it's mixed TERRIBLY but typically for newer albums (ie. Beyonce, Taylor, etc.) it's mixed a whole lot better and doesn't sound as cheap. Britney's albums actually sound immaculate in dolby which is surprising because I thought they were going to **** hers up

Zeferino Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Lossless mostly, Dolby atmos for Britney Some Dolby atmos mixes are disgustingly bad
MonsterNavy Posted June 24 Posted June 24 lossless because dolby sounds a mess with anything really since we're having apple music talk, does anyone else have this thing where certain albums being split into 2 with some of the tracks being on a standard version and others on the deluxe version on your AM library? I usually add deluxes on my library so i'm really confused why some albums has the standard and deluxe versions on my lib. it only happened few months ago and its a mess. anyone know how to fix this withiut deleting and re-adding these albums on my library?
