What is your fave's most personal album (in your view)?

Burn

Recommended Posts

A lot of artists typically claim that their most recent album is their most personal work and the truest reflection of them as a person, but in your opinion - which album do you think best reflects them personally?

(Obviously we don't know them personally so we can only use our judgment)

I would say for Beyoncé it's easily 4

And for Mariah I'd say E=MC2

I know a lot of people would say Butterfly and whilst I agree that's her best album quality wise, I think E=MC2 shows different sides of her personality better - you get the fun Mariah with songs like I'm That Chick and Touch My Body, the raw side of her with Side Effects and I Wish You Well, and the lovey dovey stuff with I Stay In Love and Love Story.

I feel like Lemonade or ST are more personal to Beyoncé, at least thematically. Especially ST, which touches a lot of topics and facets of her life and personality.

4 is more like the type of music she likes best and prefers.

idk but i'd just like the pay tribute to the tradition of artists declaring every album they've done "their most personal and intimate work to date" everytime they release something and then declare it to have been hot trash as soon as the next album comes out, which then itself becomes "their most personal and intimate work to date", it's one of my favourite parts of the album cycle

Britney - In the Zone (especially the ITZ sessions and in between ITZ and Blackout, some of her unreleased stuff touches on family stuff)

JoJo - Trying not to think about it

Morrissey - Maladjusted depicts him perfectly as a person and he draws from very specific personal stuff.

Mariah - I agree with E=MC2 but also Charmbracelet, Butterfly, Rainbow and some of Daydream and MIAM.

Christina Aguilera - Bionic and Stripped

Usher - Here I Stand

Shakira - Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran

Kesha - Rainbow

Brandy - Human

George Michael - Older (but Patience has big personal moments)

Kehlani - You Should Be Here

in my view, WYP is much more a return to roots and a liberation. That's why I deem it the most personal. Glasshouse was about family and maternity if I'm not mistaken?

Not Einstein :rip: :rip:

Since Miss Mariah actually writes all of her lyrics unlike certain girlies, all of her albums are personal but the most I would argue are Butterfly, Daydream, Charmbracelet. Butterfly is full of poetic storytelling, Daydream is a story of escapism and "dreaming" before waking up during the interlude to the bleak Looking In, and Charmbracelet was post-Glitter and her father's death.
