GoneHome Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Considering the tour bundle, not bad not good. congrats Katy
sadnews Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 it's interesting that buzzangle had katy's pure sales 7k higher than soundscan. usually soundscan is higher becuase they use weighted data(estimation) and itunes complete while buzzangle use real date only and no itunes complete.
sadnews Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 also it's such a shame that billboard doesn't reveal bundle sales for recent albums. I guess we will never know katy's bundle sales.
illuminated Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Good numbers and a #1 album. Not sure if she will have the longevity this time though. SZA did great. I really liked the album so he deserves it.

Nielsen soundscan receives data from online retailers and 14,000 different stores and billboard uses those numbers to calculate the BB200. Nielsen does not use estimates, only pure numbers from the reported retailers. It is true that Buzzangle provides only real data, however they do not receive data from every store in the US. HDD who are the people who publish estimates and the building charts use the data from buzzangle and algorithms to estimate how many SPS and pure sales an album has accumulated. I don't know where you heard otherwise
Scandalous Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) solid considering there's no hit single launching the era it's obviously gonna drop hard next week tho but oh well glad for the rule about compilations too, just because a single is a huge Hot 100 smash doesn't mean people are checking for the album Edited June 18, 2017 by Scandalous
Agenor Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 So happy to see that Billboard revised the various artists "playlists" rule.
fireaero Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I'm worried about the SEA because when Katy runs out of tour bundles her physical sales will drop I was hoping that her streaming was strong enough to make up for the drop but it's not looking great. I'm glad the album itself is good though.

I don't know where you heard otherwise nielsen has been using weighted panel data since the beginning. do some fact check. google is free. Unlike competitor Nielsen SoundScan, the reporting panels are unweighted. http://www.fyimusicnews.ca/articles/2016/05/12/buzzangle-music-charts-prepares-soft-launch-next-week https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=xgsEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA38&lpg=PA38&dq=spundscan+weighted+panel&source=bl&ots=BH1R0Cmgb8&sig=lnkiQbn4E5HurggS3zKnxF6RNuk&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiR-ffYwsjUAhUFKJQKHawMDLsQ6AEIHTAA#v=onepage&q=spundscan weighted panel&f=false In smaller markets, they are weighted. Weighted sales mean that if you buy a record in a small town in Virginia, and there are ten record stores there, but only one is SoundScanned, they basically say, well if somebody bought it in this store, it has probably sold seven copies in the market. They weight your sale in smaller markets. In larger markets it's one-to-one. https://www.taxi.com/rally/rally2002e.html

I think Soundtracks would be an exception, if the songs are created for that Soundtrack. Quote Some various artists titles will continue to earn TEA and SEA: thematic multi-artist compilation albums which contain tracks specifically recorded for that project , like The Hamilton Mixtape, We Love Disney and some charity albums like Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of The Story. In addition, soundtracks and cast recordings will continue to receive TEA and SEA as applicable. I think this proves your point, probably only soundtracks with songs recorded originally for it will receive TEA/SEA, while soundtracks like "Guardians of the Galaxy" will not.

ManDown Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 SZA, I'm so proud. Her first album and first top 30 entry, and it's #3. Truly amazing. And I completely agree with the new BB200 rule. Albums like Now! should have never qualified with the streaming rules, when all of the songs are literally hits already.
