dumbsparce Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Didn't TTPD get like a 70 on metacritic? And that's considered panned nowadays when it'd be a solid score even a decade ago. If anything, critics are indeed out of touch bc they find a way to praise everything for clicks. I can't remember the last time there was a red score for any artist we discuss in here. 1
commander Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I'm so happy that queer music is finally receiving its flowers. It's been a long time coming and it should be celebrated. And it is not surprise swifties are very uncomfortable with this (or anything at all that defies the absolute norm they oh so adore). 3 1
Wicked Posted June 22 Posted June 22 27 minutes ago, EnigmaticAndroid said: 4. Critics tend to listen to music differently than general audiences and that's mostly a good thing. Not that some reviews aren't obviously biased or poorly written, but critics in music, film, TV, etc. shouldn't just praise whatever slop the GP is eating up. Their job is to evaluate it for what it is. Is the problem that they're "out of touch with audiences" or that oftentimes audiences consume crap? People were having meltdowns that shows like The Good Doctor didn't receive as much writing and discussion as the less-watched Succession. A very well-respected former TV critic discussed this in depth, and in many ways her response applies to this one in regard to music. 4
L1veLaughL0ve Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Umm no, I think they're becoming more and more open minded- which goes to show that if your album has been rated badly, it is more than likely that it is trash.
justin. Posted June 22 Posted June 22 OP has to be an OTH in disguise, right? This feels like a setup for Taylor. 2

Popular Post Infernal Paradise Posted June 22 Popular Post Posted June 22 (edited) Oh the pick-me energy is STRONG with this one Historically, it has always been minority and queer/queer-coded artists and their niche audiences that are the true vanguards and tastemakers in music and collectively make the culture richer and shape it with their contributions, not inoffensive straight white women whose music and art caters primarily to straight white audiences and their bland and boring tastes. Accept it and move on. Edited June 22 by Marry Illusion Glory 18

I thought the gays only listened to Oontz Oontz and music they could sniff poppers to? How are songs like Birds of a Feather and Skinny catering to the white gays who, according to you, are basically bottom of the barrel? I would be more inclined to listen if your points were slightly consistent and not full of prejudices. It's ok to have different tastes, it's truly not that deep. Art and the discourse surrounding it would actually be quite boring if we all liked the same things. You just didn't respond to these albums in the same way. That's all. Edited June 22 by ZacXCX 4

HASHTAGPOW Posted June 22 Posted June 22 And they ask why ATRL hates Taylor. Let's start from her base. 1 8
futuresuperstar2023 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 CC and Billie new album are way better than Tortured pets though. Folklore and Evemore are her best and more mature albums. Midnights and this was a step down and just because she is successful doesn't mean them critics should just gas up her music. I don't take music critics seriously at all because at the end of the day I have ears. Music is subjective but we all know when an album is objectively dull or bad. Charli XCX music can be all over the place to me but at the same time I think Brats is just more interesting than Tortured pets.
Jay L Posted June 22 Posted June 22 The fact that Charli actually has large number of female fans The OP's hatred and internalized homophobia really rotted that brain yikes. Swifties you don't have to act so ugly just because other girls are getting more acclaim. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean everyone else agrees 3
Vegvisir Posted June 22 Posted June 22 TTPD is one of the most self indulgent, sloppy releases in modern pop history, and marks the beginning of Taylor's artistic decline in my humble opinion! Taylor is incapable of making something as complex, risky and innovative as Charlie's Brat. This is a fact. 4 2

dawnettakins Posted June 23 Posted June 23 A Swiftie butthurt about their fave's mid music finally getting called out and its deserved lashings, all the while calling other artists' music mid ijbol The projection is real And zero self awareness I see.
Femalien Posted June 23 Posted June 23 you've been duped to think these confessional dear diary lyrics with stripped down productions are automatically thoughtful and interesting, and duped to think anything skewing electronic or danceable is automatically less-than or low-brow, incapable of having greater meaning or depth. very facile 6
Marla Singer Posted June 23 Posted June 23 TTPD being PANNED and CC and Brat being praised are evidence to the contrary. 1
Mickie Posted June 24 Posted June 24 If anything, BRAT's score is well deserved. Taylor's last four efforts are synonymous with McDonald.
discosean Posted June 25 Posted June 25 I feel like most critics are coked out and are completely out of touch with music.
Dula Peep Posted June 25 Posted June 25 CC is overrated sure but it seems instead that critics have finally woken up
suburbannature Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Taylor's mediocre, harmless, unimaginative music has benefited from poptimism for over a decade and y'all have the AUDACITY to complain about one subpar album score. 1
