dumbsparce Posted June 20 Posted June 20 This one makes sense. Art, unlike sports, favors no particular sex in terms of raw performance. 1
Konril Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Just like the Academy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film, scrap it. 1
McNulty Posted June 20 Posted June 20 the whole gender neutral acting categories is so dumb, reducing 4 acting categorizes to just 2 is unfair both to the men and women. If one year had both men winning, they will say the oscars are sexist and if 2 women win, they will say it's WOKE 3
Arrows Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) "Actor" can be anyone, so the 0.5% made up of non-binaries should just submit in that. Edited June 20 by Arrows 3

The risk there is that the academy nominates more male than female performance each year. 2. Finally create a balloting system where actors/actresses can choose where to submit their performance. It would eliminate the possibility of the branch ignoring campaign strategies and forcing them to nominate the performer in the category they submitted in. That way if a nonbinary actor has the choice of which category they fit best into. Similar to what the Emmys already do. this is exactly what would happen, which is why they shouldn't do it. It's like what happens to the Best Director category nearly every year
LegaMyth Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Absolutely to the f** not. Halle Berry will not be the only actress of African heritage to win BA. 1 2
Illuminati Posted June 20 Posted June 20 I don't know, didn't they introduce the gendered categories to empower women? I feel like in the pursuit of being inclusive they'll just end up halving the chances for women to win any awards

It's not just about that, the move to gender neutral career titles has been happening for a very long time now and it's unrelated to non binary people wanting to be included. I don't think combining the categories will have the desired result though

My thoughts exactly Black women and women in colour in general can't even win Best Actress against white women, how the hell would they be able to compete against white men as well if there's one category? This would be so ridiculous and unfair, the non-binary population is not big enough to justify this change and it would only create more backlash against them and the LGBT community smh. 1
